Trimester 1 Ends Today!

It's truly hard to believe that the first trimester of the 2021-2022 school year has already come to an end. As we reflect on the start of this school year, I am so proud of all of the work that our students and staff have accomplished over these past few months. I can't wait to see what great things the rest of this school year holds! This week we were able to have our first in-person PTA meeting since the beginning of 2020. Thank you to all of those who attended in person, and virtually. I am so grateful that we were able to take another step towards a typical school year! Next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday, with Thanksgiving break taking place from Wednesday-Friday. As always, please feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Changes to Student Arrival Procedures Effective 11/29/21

As the snow begins to fall, we want to make sure that students are able to come into Highland each day without having to walk through the snow. To accomplish this, students in KD, KW, 1Sp, 1Sa, 2C, 2K, 3M, 3S, 3W, and 5G will now line up outside of door 2, instead of outside of their classroom. There are newly painted lines labeled with each class code located outside of door 2. Lines are spaced a minimum of 3 feet apart. While students will line up outside of door 2, students will continue to enter the building through their current classroom doors. These changes will take effect on Monday, November 29th. Please reach out to your student's teacher or the Highland main office if you have any questions.

NO Optional Student COVID-19 Testing Next Week

We continue to work closely with Northshore, the company we have partnered with for COVID 19 screening, symptomatic testing and test-to-stay, in order to support the mandated health protocols in each of our buildings. Due to the abbreviated schedule associated with Thanksgiving break, weekly screening testing will not be offered next week, the week of November 22nd. DG58 health office staff will continue to support both symptomatic and test to stay testing during our two days of attendance and the weekly testing program will resume on Monday, November 29th.

Optional Vaccination Card Collection

District 58 invites families to voluntarily share an electronic image of their child’s vaccination card with their building’s health office. Providing proof of vaccination is not required. However, current CDC guidance excuses fully vaccinated individuals from having to quarantine unless symptomatic.

By sharing a copy of your child’s card, if your child is a close contact, having the vaccination card on hand will expedite the school’s investigation process. Copies of proof of vaccination will be kept in each student’s individual health file and treated in the same way as all health records. Please feel free to send a picture of your child's COVID vaccination card to your school nurse!

Directory Update

We will be launching our new version of the PTA directory later this month. The directory, which will be available only to PTA members, will include the following information for families who have shared their contact information with the PTA:

- Student First and Last Name
- Grade
- Teacher
- Primary Parent Name
- Primary Email Address
- Primary Phone number.

If you would like your information removed from the directory, please complete the opt-out form that was sent home last week by backpack mail, or email the PTA Board to request removal, by the end of the day today, Friday 11/19/21.

Reflections Art Program

Remember that the due date to turn in Reflections projects at school is this coming Tuesday November 23rd, and projects can be turned in to Vikki Beening by Friday, 11/26. Any questions, please contact Vikki Beening.

Square 1 Art

Square 1 Art catalogs are in and should be coming home via backpack before Thanksgiving break! Some of the art can already be viewed here. If you don't see any results under your child's last name, please use the code on their catalog.

Orders will be open until 11/30/21, so consider taking the catalog to your Thanksgiving celebrations to share with extended family. All items will be delivered the week of 12/13/21 - perfect for holiday gifts!

Thank you to Miss Beck and committee chair Monica Zycinski for all of their work to get this program back up and running. Questions? Contact Monica.

Holiday Helpers

It's time for us to come together as a community again to provide food and other necessities for a few of our fellow Highland families. More information about specific needs will be coming soon. If you'd like to help organize donations, or have any questions or concerns, please contact Fanny Vlahos at fkvlahos@gmail.com.
