Citizens right to rule

Thesis

Citizens should be allowed to rule based on the conditions of the community and how they think the community should be run by voting and voicing out their opinions without getting turned down by the government.

summery

In “Harrison Bergeron” and “the Lottery” both texts describes how the government takes over the decisions and the way people live without the people having a say so. Harrison fought back against the government because he didn’t like the way they took away his abilities just because the government wanted everyone to be equal and for that he was killed. “The lottery” is a tradition that whoever picks the paper with the black dot on it is killed for because they believed that it will grow more corn for the community.

Quote & Analysis Harrison Bergeron

"’Even as I stand here" he bellowed, "crippled, hobbled, sickened - I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived! Now watch me become what I can become!’"

This quote supports my thesis because it shows that everyone does not like how the government run things. Everyone has their own view of how things should be run and they want to be able to express how they feel without getting shut down. Harrison got fed up on how the handicap general/government was running things and tried to do something to better the community.

Quote & Analysis The Lottery

"’They do say," Mr. Adams said to Old Man Warner, who stood next to him, "that over in the north village they're talking of giving up the lottery."

This quote supports my thesis because the citizens are starting to have a different view of things and wants to change how they do things.

Conclusion

Citizens should be allowed the right to vote and voice out their opinions without getting shut down by the government. This would be better for the community because if everything is run how the citizens want it to be ran than it wouldn't be any disagreements or conflict in the community. My biggest fear is that things won't go in favor of the citizens and that the government will take control of everything and the citizens will be stuck with the decisions of the government.
