2 Wrestlers Win At State
and...
Congratualtions to Mason Woodward, 4th Place in State!
Wrestling State Bound for the 15th Year In A Row!
The Weatherford wrestling team traveled to Haltom to compete in the Regional Wrestling Tournament.
The girls once again had a great weekend taking 3rd overall as a team.
Camille Fournier took 2nd
Kadee Kelley took 3rd
Kaylynn Green took 3rd
Sydney Fenus took 5th
Karissa Pratt took 6th
Congratulations! For the 15th year in a row the Weatherford wrestling team will be traveling to the State tournament. This year it will again be hosted in Houston.
Boys Wrestling - 4 State Qualifiers
At 106 pounds junior Kalen Napier took 3rd place, losing only to the #1 ranked wrestler in the state. This takes his season record to 32-8 on the year. He is ranked 7th in the state.
At 120 pounds freshman Mason Woodward took 2nd place and his sole loss was to the #1 wrestler, and defending State Champion from Martin. On his way to the finals, Mason defeated the #2 state ranked wrestler. Mason’s record is 38-5 this year.
At 152 senior Moises Oropeza took 5th place and wrestled really well all weekend. His record this year is 33-17.
At 195 pounds, senior Terell Napier took 3rd place losing only to the #2 ranked wrestler in the state. His record is 29-11 on the year.
On a tougher note, returning state qualifier, Jeremiah Hatfield, was in the quarterfinals when he was injured and unable to compete anymore.
Several other boys had very good tournaments led by Kit Sanders who went 2 and 2 on the weekend.

Please congratulate the following art & photo students for their Top Level Medals at the Regional Visual Arts Scholastic Event held last weekend in Ft. Worth:
Connor Payne, Elizabeth Hightower, Breanna Sarslow, Ashton Copeland, Reagan Boerner and Madison Ringo all won 2 Top Level Medals.
Jack French, Tyler Hightower, Sandy Kehrman and Kira Goulette all won 1 Top Level Medals.

AP TESTING - Here's What You Need To Know
The 2017-2018 Bulletin for AP Students and Parents has been sent home with AP students.
You can now begin sharing the URL (http://aptestservice.com/whs) in emails, social media, newsletters, etc. Families can click around and check things out, but the registration form will stay closed until 1/22, when it will open automatically to begin test registration. Regular registration deadline is March 9th.
- AP Test Registration Begins: Monday, January 22, 2018
- AP Test Registration Closes: Friday, March 9th, 2018
- AP Exam Fee $94.00 per exam
- AP Capstone Exam Fee $142.00 per exam
- Late Registration: Monday, March 12th, 2018 to Friday, March 30th, 2018

Time To Think PROM
Seniors, it's time to start planning for Prom! The theme this year is Gatsby and it will be held at the Fort Worth Convention Center on April 28, 2018. Prom Information Packets are available in the front office or in Mrs. Gonzalez's room, Room E220. Tickets can now be purchased either online or in the front office. Pick up your prom packet today to get all the information!
Lady Roos Soccer Update
The Varsity Lady Roos defeated Keller Fossil Ridge with a score of 2-1. The first goal came from a free kick outside the 25 by Hailey Maloy, freshman Aubree McCue was there to follow for the shot. The second goal came from freshman Michaela Bosco unassisted. This win places the Lady Roos at 4-3 in district play setting them up for the 4th place spot for playoffs.
JV also came away with a 6-0 win. Goals and assists from Sara Strittmatter assisted by Payton Theobideux, Payton Goal Ashtin Hudson assist, Mady Wolfsen unassisted, Payton assisted by Ashtin, and Payton assisted by Emma Groce. JV lady Roos move to 4-1-1 in district play.

Boys Soccer Results
Roo Soccer lost a tough one to fossil Ridge 4-2. We were down 2-0 when Waki Ebake scored on a breakaway assisted by Vincent Santibanez. In the second half Vincent Santibanez scored from the top of the box assisted by Jesus Hernandez. Final score was 4-2. Roos play at Timbercreek on Tuesday.

Criminal Justice Club Rocks District Competition
The Criminal Justice Club competed this weekend against 13 schools for District competition in Granbury. WHS had 10 students place for State!

Bass Team Reels In a Top 30 Finish
The Weatherford High School Bass Team fished an extremely difficult Lake Texoma tournament over the weekend. Mathew McDougall and Bradley Slovak weighed in one fish for a top 30 finish, keeping them in great shape for the Regional Qualifier in April. Dylan Worsham fished his inaugural tournament, but was not able to weigh one in. Also fishing in the tournament was Ashton Smith, Ethan Cienega, and Hayden Johnson. Great effort!
The team's next tournament is at Lake Whitney in March.

Roo Baseball Needs YOU
The WHS Roo baseball program is selling tickets for the 2018 Texas Rangers season. Our selling these tickets is part of an agreement in which our Roo Baseball Team will have the opportunity to play a game in the Rangers Stadium, Globe Life Field on March 12th against Garland Sachse High School.

Texas Tech Offers Leadership Development Opportunity
Students, here's an opportunity to apply for Camp L.E.A.D., Texas Tech University's leadership education and development program, which takes place July 24-27, 2018. During this program, students will participate in activities ranging from individualized leadership sessions to group challenges and team-building activities. Your students will also have an opportunity to explore Texas Tech through an official campus tour and in-depth sessions with their intended field of study.
Transportation, housing and curriculum materials are provided at no cost to students admitted into the program.
Admission to Camp L.E.A.D. is highly selective. Students should apply and submit documentation regarding their leadership abilities no later than the given deadline. To be considered, students must meet the following requirements:
- Grade Level: must be an incoming high school senior in the Fall of 2018.
- Academic Performance: student's high school counselor must submit a form regarding their academic performance. Students are also asked to self-report their ACT/SAT scores.
- Community Involvement: must be an active member of your community and involved in extracurricular activities.
- Leadership: must have a proven desire to be a leader.
- Interest in Texas Tech: Applicants must be interested in enrolling at Texas Tech University.
- Cost: Transportation, housing and event materials provided at no cost if admitted.

Scholarship Opportunities
Weatherford College has opened its online scholarship application for 2018-2019. Students need to apply to Weatherford College prior to filling out the application. The Weatherford College Foundation gives out more than $240,000 in scholarships every year. Be sure not to miss out on this valuable opportunity. The deadline to apply is March 24, 2018.
If you are planning to take dual credit classes next year, you may be eligible to receive the Texas Bank Scholarship. This scholarship is available for students in grades 9 – 12 that have a financial need and are willing to perform community service hours. You will need to take the TSI test and attach your college-ready scores to the application. Applications are available in the Counseling Center and the deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 19. If you have questions about the scholarship, please see your counselor.
