Dear SAS Families,
Alleluia! The Lord is risen! Happy Easter! What wondrous news for us who have followed the Christian journey, trying to understand the Mystery of our loving God during the long winter months. Through His passion, death, and resurrection Jesus broke the bonds of death for us. He shows us the way back to the Father, our Creator. His way is the way of Love.
The Easter season continues throughout the month of April and brings us closer to the special celebrations for the Sacraments of Initiation. Bishop Timothy Senior will administer the sacrament of Confirmation to our seventh graders on April 13th at 4:00 pm. School will close at noon on April 13th to allow time to prepare for Confirmation. Meanwhile, the second graders are readying their hearts to receive our Lord in Holy Eucharist. First Penance will take place on April 28th at 7:00 pm. First Holy Communion will be held on May 1st at 9:30 am. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers as they prepare for these hallmark moments in their journey of faith.
Today was the official start for wearing the optional spring uniforms. The boys are permitted to wear the red or white golf shirt with the Saint Andrew School logo with either the grey trousers or grey shorts. Boys are required to keep the shirt tucked in and they must wear a belt. Black or white socks are worn with the school shoes. The girls’ spring uniform consists of the navy skort or grey shorts, and the red or white golf shirt. The golf shirt may be worn with the plaid kilt, but not the jumper. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. Girls may wear navy or white ankle socks with the skort. However, the Prescott red, knee socks are to be worn with the jumper and kilt. Hair color and nail color are not permitted. Boys’ hair must not fall below the collar of the shirt. Adhering to the uniform code is a simple form of self-discipline. It also is a means of demonstrating cooperation and taking pride in being a Saint Andrew School student.
All are reminded that if the days are chilly, the students will need a jacket or sweatshirt to wear outdoors. Once in the classroom any non-uniform jacket or sweatshirt must be removed. Only the regulation school sweater or, on gym days, the gym sweatshirt may be worn in the classroom. Covid mitigations still require that windows be open, so the sweaters may be needed. Several students have been coming to school without masks or water bottles. The Home and School Association has been beyond generous in keeping a supply on hand to those who forget; however, this is quickly becoming cost-prohibitive. Please be sure your child has a few clean masks in the bookbag, and water for snack and lunch.
Everyone of us longs for a greater sense of normalcy. We are getting there, slowly but surely. Attendance at the Easter Triduum liturgies was a clear sign of renewal. Last year at Easter, our churches were empty. This year we celebrated with all the familiar rituals. God is with us! Thank you all for entrusting us with your most precious gift. It is an honor and a privilege to work with you in the formation of your child. It’s still all Good!
Peace and all Good,
Helen McLean, Ed.D.

Raffle Tickets from Delco Derby:
As you may recall, around this time last year, we asked you to sell raffle tickets for the chance to win one of three awesome prizes. This raffle fundraiser was part of our bigger Delco Derby fundraiser, which was to be held in April of last year. Unfortunately, we had to cancel that fundraiser due to the pandemic. But we will pick up our raffle fundraiser where we left off last year – all tickets that have been sold and turned in to the school office are accounted for and will be eligible to win the drawing, which will now be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021.
If you still have sold tickets to turn in, please do so by Wednesday, April 21. If you still have unsold tickets, we ask that you please try to sell them to help the Home and School Association raise our fundraising goals for the school. And, if you need additional tickets, those are being distributed as well.
Prizes include 1st prize, a Weber gas grill; 2nd prize, a Yeti Tundra Haul; and 3rd Prize, SAS custom Cornhole Boards created by the talented and extremely generous Jack Hopkins.
Every family will receive one book of six tickets (tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10). Our hope is for every family to sell their entire book of tickets and help SAS raise the money needed to support the school at this difficult time. Please return any unsold chances to the school.
