ATTENTION Co-Op Board Members:
Please review and be ready to discuss the results of the SWOT analysis at the next board meeting on Nov. 15th. They are in our shared October Board folder.
Committee Meeting Updates:
Social Studies: The social studies curriculum committee met on 10/02 and discussed the C3 Framework, the plan for state standards in the coming years, and had grade band and vertical team discussions about the 4 dimensions (of the C3) and available resources. We selected three publishers from which to order samples for review. At the Nov. 13th meeting, we will have a half day training on Making Social Studies Relevant, a one hour presentation about the MT Historical Society, and use the remaining time to preview curricular materials from Pearson, TCI, and Discovery (m.s./h.s.). Anyone is welcome to come and look at the sample materials during co-op hours (8:00-4:30) from 11/12-11/20. I will extend my hours until 6:00 on Tues. 11/13 for those wishing to view them after school hours. Or, call and make an appointment for another time.
Music: The music team met on 10/09 and discussed the Guiding Principles for the Arts as well as the anchor standards and model curriculum guide from the OPI. They also spent time creating a shared resources page which will be added to throughout the next two years. As a group, we decided to cancel the 11/27 meeting, due to conflicting performance rehearsal schedules. We will keep collaborating though Google Docs between now and the next meeting on 02/05. The focuses of the next meeting will be: performance assessments; classroom management tips and tricks while teaching and assessing; and, standards-based assessing and reporting.
Health Enhancement Collaboration: The Health Enhancement reps utilized their day of collaboration very effectively by generating 8 topics of interest and then making choices of sessions to attend throughout the day. This format was loosely based on a Teacher Ed Camp, which is an "unconference" style of professional development. Throughout the day, we added notes and resources from each session to shared google docs as well. Some of the topics included family engagement, fitness testing, the best active games, and social and health topics. One of the most exciting things to come out of this day is a teacher-created PIR opportunity. The H.E. teacher reps, in conjunction with the Co-op, will be hosting a three hour PIR on Dec. 5th from 4:30-7:30 in the Helena Flats Gym. This will be a hands-on, teacher-led workshop. It will be worth three PIR/renewal units. Sign up on PIR net!
Science: The meeting on 11/06 will focus on: Assessment, including creating performance assessments and connecting CRT released items to grade level standards; Shared Resources and continuing discussions in an online forum; and creating a common 8th grade lab. There will be no meeting on 01/15. Instead, we are excited to announce two days of professional development in teaching with the NGSS with Kirk Robbins on 04/04 & 04/05. 04/04 will be for grades K-5 and 04/05 will be for grades 6-12. Science committee members will have priority in the registration process. It will then be opened up to additional teachers as space allows. If you would like to register, email or call the co-op office.
Have a great November and Happy Thanksgiving!
