Teacher's Assistant Course

Overview of Marking Period 4

Welcome to Marking Period 4

All Teacher's Assistant course content, communication, and due dates are available using the Canvas application. This email is designed to provide a general overview of expectations for marking period 4.

Back up access to course content will be available on my teacher webpage. If Canvas is down, you can email me copies of your assignment so they are not late; however, I will expect that you upload your assignment to Canvas once operational.

Attendance Policy:

  • Assignments for the week will be posted by 9:00 AM Monday of each week.
  • Attendance is mandatory and each day will count as a regular school day starting on April 14th.

In order to maintain flexibility, attendance will be taken based on the weekly completion of assignments. If the due date is Friday and students complete all work by the following Monday, they will be marked present for the week.

Grading:

  • In order to receive grades and credit, students must engage regularly and complete course requirements.
  • CHS: 4th Quarter academic performance will be reported using the CHS traditional grading system.
  • There will be no final exams for Spring of 2020

PowerSchool Grading Alerts, if you receive a...

  • 2 - there is an assignment error. You made a mistake with the assignment requirements / expectations. There are probably comments in the Canvas Assignment. You can fix and resubmit for credit. Please email me if you have questions.
  • 1 - there is a submission error. The document you submitted may be blank or I cannot view it.
  • 0 - the assignment was not submitted. It is late. You can still submit for credit. Email me with questions or if you submit the assignment late!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT RESUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS & LATE ASSIGNMENTS:

I do not always get notifications to grade late assignments from Canvas. If you want credit, email me once you submitted the assignment so that I know to go back and grade it.

Weekly Assignment Procedures:

  • Read the Announcements at least once per week.
  • Use modules to complete assignments, not the "to do" list. Everything will be in order in the modules. This is also where I will provide addition content to help you complete assignments. In the modules, I will have information to help you start the resume and thank you letter before the due date - I suggest you start these.
  • I will post new assignments on Sunday.
  • All assignments are due by Friday at 3 pm
  • I will contact you and your parent on Friday after 3 pm if I have not yet received your assignments for the week. You will have until Sunday at 12 pm to submit late assignments. Attendance is based on assignment completion. If I do not have your assignments by Sunday at 12 pm, after the email to parents, I will have to report you as absent for the week.

Attention Seniors:

As of yet, there is no last day scheduled for Seniors. I have planned the due dates so that the final Thank You letter for seniors is due Friday, May 22nd. Should we end earlier, your assignment will be due earlier. Should we end later, I will extend the due date for this assignment (and you will also have more time to update your resume).

Weekly Assignment: Email Your Teacher (10%)

This will account for 10% of your marking period 4 grade.

I expect you to reach out to your teacher asking you how they could best use their help in the new learning environment (some ideas to follow). You will need to copy me in your "official" weekly email for a grade. I will give you additional information on what to write in Canvas on Tuesday, April 14th (the start of the next marking period).

Projects (30%)

Each of the following projects will count for 10% of your marking period 4 grade.

I will post additional information in Canvas prior to the due date, but this email is to give you an overview of the course expectations for marking period 4. These projects will not be due until after May 1st. I have emailed your supervising teacher to make them aware of these projects and expectations. You can start working on these projects prior to the official Canvas assignment, but you should review all assignments in Canvas before submitting.

Teacher Evaluation (60%)

Your performance evaluation as a TA will count for 60% of your marking period 4 grade. Your supervising teacher evaluates you on the following criteria (details in picture to the left):

  1. Problem Solving / Critical Thinking
  2. Oral and Written Communication
  3. Collaboration
  4. Information Technology
  5. Career Management
  6. Leadership
  7. Global Awareness
  8. Professionalism / Work Ethic
