New Hybrid Model (4 Day Face-to-Face Instruction)
Lexington-Richland School District Five will transition in-person students from a hybrid schedule to a 4-day in-person instructional schedule. The transition will occur in three (3) phases, with 4K-2 grade students attending school 4 days a week beginning on Monday, Oct. 5. Students in grades 3-6 will begin attending school 4 days a week on Oct. 19, and students in grades 7-12 will join other grades in attending school 4 days a week beginning on Nov. 9.
Wednesday will continue to be a distance learning day for students attending school in-person.
The district's Flexible Innovative Virtual Education (FIVE) virtual program will continue for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.
All four-year-old preschool students will transition from half-day to a return to a full-day program on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Three-year-old programs will continue with half-day programming, as this is their typical schedule.
Phases of Reentry:
- PHASE III - 3-6 Grades
OCTOBER 19*
Beginning October 19, in-person students in grades 4K through 6 will attend school 4 days per week. Grades 7-12 will remain hybrid.
- PHASE IV - 7-12 Grades
NOVEMBER 9*
Beginning November 9, in-person students in grades 4K through 12 will attend school 4 days per week.
*NOTE: Schools may utilize a 100% distance learning model during any phase if needed in response to COVID-19. Phases and dates can be modified, contingent upon reentry considerations outlined in the presentation to the school Board during the Sept. 28 meeting. Click the following link to view the superintendent’s report from the Sept. 28 board meeting: http://bit.ly/ReentryPPT.
Instructional Model Change Request
School District Five has asked that families of elementary school students commit to at least a quarter and that families of secondary students commit to at least a semester before requesting a change in their instructional option.
To request a change from one instructional model to another, parents/guardians will complete online forms, which will be available on school and district websites during the request windows for elementary students and secondary students. Requests will be considered based on available space and schedule/class availability.
- Request Windows:
- Elementary (K-5): The form opens Monday, October 5, 2020 and closes Friday, October 16, 2020 at 5 pm.
- Secondary (6-12): The form opens Monday, November 9, 2020 and closes Friday, November 20, 2020 at 5pm.
Parents/guardians who have already filled out a hardship request and are on a waiting list will get notification from the district saying they do not have to complete the form. In that notification, parents will be asked if they want to remain on the list or be removed. If they want to stay on the list, they do not have to fill out a form.
School District Five will merge the waiting list names with the forms collected and utilize a computerized, random lottery system to fill any available seats.
- If your child is approved to change their instructional model (from FIVE to in-person OR from in-person to FIVE), there is no option for parents to accept or decline their seat. The change in the instructional model is automatic and goes into effect on November 12.
- Parents must fill out a form for each child.
Acceptance Process: (*Not all requests will be granted. Approval will be based upon space and schedule/class availability*)
- Elementary (K-5): Notification email to parents on or before Thursday, November 5, 2020.
- Secondary (6-12): Notification email to parents on or before Wednesday, January 27, 2021.
Implementation of Instructional Model Changes (upon acceptance):
- Elementary (K-5): Start of 2nd quarter: Thursday, November 12, 2020.
- Secondary (6-12): Start of 2nd Semester: Wednesday, February 3, 2021.
School District Five families requesting admission into FIVE or a change to their in-person schedule after the elementary and/or secondary request window will be placed on a hardship waiting list.
FIVE VIRTUAL PROGRAM
School District Five’s Flexible Innovative Virtual Education (FIVE) is a virtual academy for Kindergarten through 12th grade students, providing a comprehensive online educational program where they receive rigorous academic instruction and social/emotional guidance provided by our own School District Five educators. This option will include live classroom instruction with School District Five teachers, along with independent work and activities for students.
FIVE will continue to operate for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. FIVE is currently at capacity for the 2020-2021 school year. Additional requests for FIVE will be considered based on space and schedule/class availability.
PSAT
In order to provide both opportunity and safety, the district has rescheduled the PSAT for January 26, 2021. For 8th grade students who choose to pay for and take the PSAT/NMSQT as a practice and/or for the opportunity to earn Junior Scholar designation, the testing date will be THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, 2021.
More information will be coming at a later date.
