PLSD To Remain In The Hybrid Model After Nov. 16
The following is an important message from Superintendent Chris Briggs:
Hello Pickerington family,
I would like to say a huge “thank you” to each and every one of you — each parent, student and staff member — for your continued patience as we navigate through this challenging time brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, we have successfully worked to keep students learning and safe with our Flexible 2.0 Learning Plan, which allows us the opportunity to remain nimble as infection rates change locally and nationally.
As you know, our primary goal has always been to move to the Green Status Level, and we have been working hard to make that happen because we know that it is ultimately what most families want. However, based on a three-fold increase in in-school positive and quarantined cases in our district and the ensuing impact on staffing levels, we have decided to postpone the transition to the Green Status Level model — 4 days of in-person learning per week. We will remain in the hybrid model beginning on November 16th.
Our administrative team will continue to review the number of positive and quarantined cases in our district on a weekly basis. We know there are strong feelings on both sides of this issue, so please know that we greatly appreciate your support during this time as district leaders continue to weigh each decision heavily as it pertains to the health, safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Again, we will continue to evaluate the number of local and districtwide cases on a weekly basis, and if a decision is made to move to the Green Status Level, we will provide you with at least a week’s notice.
Please note that for our students that have transitioned to “Hybrid from VLA” or “VLA to Hybrid” based on the lottery, we will still use the November 16th date for these students to transition to their new model.
Thank you again to our fantastic staff and board of education for all of the hard work you continue to do, and to our parents and students for your support during this process! It has never been more evident to me that we are all in this together! I know that this has been a very difficult time for everyone, and I have never been more proud of the combined efforts of our Pickerington family!
Sincerely,
Dr. Chris Briggs
