A Letter from the President
Notes from the President.
February 4, 2021
We are entering our twelfth month of “This isn’t what I expected”. I, like many others am experiencing COVID fatigue, yet I know that the disease is real and dangerous and that I need to be patient, wear masks, and practice social distancing.
I appreciate the fact that we have the internet and various social media tools to help us to maintain contact with each other. Our program chairs have been busy finding speakers that will present on zoom and even lead workshops. This month, we will have a workshop on quilted postcards. You still have time to sign up and order the required book before the workshop.
The North Texas Quilt Festival is scheduled for August 19-21 in the Irving Convention Center. I need at least one more person to attend the planning meetings (currently virtual). The first meeting will be Friday, Feb 26 at 7PM. We also need people to work in the show, particularly in our booth and to coordinate volunteers. The big need is for members to enter quilts in the show. I’m sure that those which were ready for last year’s show can be entered this year. But we also need quilts representing this year’s work.
I am trying to set up informal sit and sew and visit meetings on various days and at various times. If you want one on a specific day/time, please let me know. They will mostly be announced on the members’ Facebook page -- Fort Worth Quilt Guild Members Group.
There are still a few vacancies in the committee chair list, in part because you have a president who really dislikes making phone calls. If you see a blank spot in the list at the end of the newsletter which you can fill, volunteer and call, test or email me.
We are still adapting to the reality of our current situation – some days with better grace than others, Be safe. Wear your mask. Make a mask for someone else. Seriously consider getting vaccinated.
Sew on – it’s good for the soul!

MEMBERSHIP
Our membership continues to grow! As of today, we have 70 members registered and paid. Everyone should have received a receipt and membership card via snail mail. (Those who paid with PayPal were not sent a receipt.)
It is possible to teach “old dogs’ new tricks”. Attendance at meetings and workshops on ZOOM has increased each month. During the jelly roll race workshop not only did attendees make a quilt, but they also had time to visit and catch up on things other than quilting. Not quite as good as an in-person workshop, but a nice change from sewing alone.
More great programs and workshops are upcoming! So be sure to check out the calendar.
Looking forward to seeing more and more of your shining faces on ZOOM.

RAFFLE QUILT
The raffle quilt winning ticket was drawn during our November Zoom meeting. The winner was Beverly Peterson, who came to pick up her quilt the very next day. Enjoy your beautiful quilt, Beverly!
In spite of the difficulties caused by the pandemic, we managed to make a profit of around $750 thanks to all the members who bought and/or sold tickets. Thanks to Chris Tomich who pieced the quilt, to Lynda McGee and Shelley Clauss who quilted it, and to Melissa Picha (The Compass Centre) who helped choose the fabrics and gave us a great guild discount.
RETREAT 2021
BEES
REMNANTS:
FRAYED KNOTS BEE The Frayed Knots bee has been meeting virtually at our usual time. In January, Sarah Tutt showed her log cabin; Ann Houpt previewed her Spring quilt entry and Jonquele Jones displayed the components of a newly started project. Cecilia Buckholz showed a "don't feed the donkey" block she completed for a BOM she’s working on.

ROGUES: Rogue Bee
Three brave members of the Rogue Bee met at Sam’s Italian for dinner on the first Tuesday of the month.
We are hoping in the future to have a better turn out as the virus is conquered by vaccines!
I got my first shot this week – so should be immune by…?? March or April.
Beverly and I are taking quilts to the quilter on Saturday – so…on to the next project.
Laurel is beginning to feel more like herself – able to wear a shoe after her ankle break…progress!
TIGHT KNOTS BEE
Like the rest of our quilt sisters, we are not meeting in person. We are at home keeping safe and healthy; but we are sewing. This year we are making pillowcases for Safe Haven again. Our bee is also sewing masks for a local FWISD school. They were having trouble getting smaller sized masks for their students. This was something we could do to help our community and you know we all have great fabric to choose from. I have included a photo of the fun masks.
Many of us have started our vaccine shots and hope to be able to meet again soon. Stay safe and maybe we will all be able to have our guild meetings in person again.

BEV RAMSEY FUND
Bev Ramsey was a charter member of the guild, a past president, teacher, and friend. We lost her way too early. The fund was set up to help those in need to be able to enjoy the things she loved very much, retreats and workshops. We should be able to send 2 people to retreat this year. Application forms will be available at the November and December meetings or by sending an email request to Karen Holder. Applications should be in no later than the end of January. The applications may be given to a member of the board or to Grace Stroud.

NICU QUILTS
Information from JPS for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Quilts
We received a letter recently introducing us to Mitzi Vanderark, the new coordinator of volunteers at JPS. They love the quilts we send them. They included some criteria for us to follow.
For the baby blankets:
Receiving – 36” x 36”
Preemie – 18” x 18” (NO flannel)
Baby – 36” x 36”, or 36”-38” by 40”-42”
No larger than 38” x 42” but preferred size is 36” x 36”
Fleece and flannel are NOT accepted in the ICU, 100% cotton only for front and back.
All quilts should be washed after piecing and before donation to JPS.
NICU Quilts
I'm again collecting NICU quilts for JPS. They should be about 36x36 of cotton, no flannel or fleece. I don't have a definite date to bring them there - probably aiming for early December. I live by TCU if you would like to drop them off, or I can try and pick them up. (My time is limited at the moment because my father is in the hospital and my mother in memory care wondering why he's left her. He is expected to recover and return by late November.) I know JPS is thrilled with our donations. Thanks. Julie Hedden 817 797 6109
LOVIES QUILTS
A big thanks to all who donate fabric and time for the lovies. These are greatly needed and appreciated by the NICU at Harris downtown and the parents of the premies.
It helps to give the scent of the mothers to the babies and the scent of the babies to the mothers. We still need some cotton fabrics that read solid in red, green, blue and yellow.
Thank you,
Beverly Peterson
