Principal's Letter
Dear West TV Families,
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
For the past three years our staff has collaboratively constructed our IB Primary Years Program of Inquiry (POI). The Program of Inquiry describes West TV's curriculum. Each grade level addresses six transdisciplinary themes in a sequence of instructional units that build on the work of previous grade levels. Each unit contains the following components:
- A central idea: All learning in the unit is built around this idea. It encompasses the several lines of inquiry that the children will explore. Each student is expected to be able to communicate the central idea at the end of each unit.
- Key concepts: We focus on the eight key concepts of form, function, causation, change, connection, perspective, responsibility, and reflection. Each key concept is a way of looking at the central idea, and we use the key concepts to organize our thoughts and questions about the unit.
- Lines of Inquiry: The lines of inquiry help us define the central idea and how we want to address it. As we plan a unit, we consider the various aspects and concepts we need to use in order to learn what needs to be learned. We form 3-4 lines of inquiry which will emphasize the key concepts and focus on content standards.
This link shows our Program of Inquiry (POI), and is organized to see the entire curriculum under the six themes at a glance. Through this curricular framework, we organize the state standards and district learning targets in each subject area at each grade level, into a Program of Inquiry. Our POI will be a fluid document to be updated and revised over time.
Enjoy the long weekend.
