Reflecting on the past week...
We had a great week... as there were many celebrations!
Last Sunday was the close of Marian's Production of Ask Any Girl. The cast and crew were phenomenal as were our amazing directors, Mrs. Connell and Mr. Kuiper. Now we are all looking forward to the winter musical!
On Wednesday afternoon, Dan Valeria committed to St. Cloud State University for wrestling. Two more students will be participating in their college signings this Monday at 2:45. If you get a chance, come celebrate with the students and their families in Lander's Pavilion!
Thursday evening, our music students celebrated the induction of six new students to the Tri-M Music Honor Society. It is always wonderful to celebrate our students' successes... not only in academics, but also recognizing their other many talents! These are important aspects of our students becoming well-rounded individuals.
Our week ended with an extremely successful and exciting 8th Grade Visit Day! The students all seemed to have a good time as they rotated through all of the departments. I want to thank all teachers, Mrs. DiSilvio, Mrs. Bordeaux, and the various student groups who helped make the day a success! I want to also give a special thank you to Mrs. Littner and the student mentor program, as without them, this day would not work like the "well-oiled machine" that it does!
Finally, our first ever E-Learning Day seemed to work relatively well... at face-value. Once you have had time to process how it went for you, feel free to email Ms. Novy with any reflections, observations, or suggestions on how we might be able to improve the process... as we will be getting into winter weather very quickly! Mrs. Johnson will also be reviewing how attendance worked so if she reaches out to you for any clarification on students, please help her out.
What's coming up?
Tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 17 is Marian's Open House from 1 - 3 pm. This is an important event for the future of Marian, as it is one of the best ways to get people into the school to see what Marian is all about. All faculty is expected to attend.
- Here is the table layout for the extra curricular fair, held in the main gym
- Key Club, StuCo, & NHS members will be available to provide visitors with tours of the school
- Each department should have one classroom set up to accept visitors. It's a great way for them to meet our faculty and find out what great opportunities lay ahead for prospective Marian students.
**Please remember that all staff must be at school no later than 12:30 pm to ensure that all elements of this special day are ready to go!
Tuesday is Marian's annual Hurricane Day, a day of giving focusing on three main aspects...
- Student Tuition Assistance,
- Athletics (in particular, the Field of Dreams repairs), and
- Fine Arts (in particular, theater lighting, curtains, and floor)
Please consider being a part of the solution. Click here for more information on www.marian.com/hurricaneday.
The rest of this week seems relatively "normal," focusing firmly on academics... and ensuring that our students are on track to close out the semester successfully. Believe it or not, there is only about a month left of the semester. This means that we need to have serious conversations with our students who have missing work, have not made up summatives, and may have low grades (D/F range). We also need to make positive contact with their parents... remember, we need to work as a team with the parents in order to ensure our students are progressing as expected.
Good luck to all of our band students as they audition for McHenry Honor Band this week. In addition, our theater students are going to be performing The Bully Plays for several middle schools this Thursday. You can catch a special performance Friday evening at 7:00 as well! Come see our budding Thespians address a very serious issue and show off their talents!
Have a wonderful week!
