What to expect at the ceremony:
- Opening sequence with a summary of Russian accomplishments and a beautiful display of the five Olympic rings.
- The Parade of Nations honoring every country taking part in the events.
- A brilliant performance on Russian history.
- Articulate speeches from the likes of International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
- The torch will be lighted at the conclusion by many of Russia's most successful athletes; Tennis star Maria Sharapova, pole vaulter Elena Isinbaeva, wrestler Alexander Karelin, gymnast Alina Kabeava and hockey great Vladislav Tretiak.
