Preschool
Welcome to Horn Elementary, preschool friends and families! Preschool friends come to library once a week on Wednesday. In the library I read to them, we sing songs and do some fun activities along the way. At the end of class every week they choose a library book to check out and take home. They are welcome to keep it for the week, then return it the next Wednesday.
Kindergarten
I meet with kindergarten classes twice a week.During the Wednesday class we learn about the library and work on literacy topics. Students are welcome to check out up to three books weekly and return them the next Wednesday. They select books based on their interests, rather than looking for something they can read. Thursday classes will focus on technology skills appropriate to their level.
1st and 2nd grades
First and second grade students come to library every Tuesday for class and stay after to check out books. They will explore all sections of the library and learn about the different genres in each. They will also do a research project during the year. During checkout they can choose up to five books to take home and return the following week.
3rd and 4th grades
Third and fourth grade students meet weekly for class and stay for a checkout time right after. This fall these students will focus their learning on the Visiting Author and Illustrator, Melissa Sweet. Her books have received Caldecott Honors and have been on the New York Times bestseller lists. She will visit Iowa CIty Schools the week of October 14-18.
In addition, they will learn best ways to locate books for information and enjoyment in the library and participate in the annual Optimist Good Reader Program after Winter Break. In the spring, students will spend time learning about digital citizenship and technology skills.

Modified class
Every Friday I meet with the Modified class in Mr. Bruno's room. We read stories, sing songs and learn new things based on themes, such as colors or seasons. It is fun to share this learning together!
