Castle View Family Newsletter

January 27, 2023

Big picture

Hello, Castle View Families:

Students have completed the registration process through the Academic Planner in Infinite Campus. We are on track to have current CV student schedules ready for them to view by the middle of May so that we can complete schedule corrections before summer break. I know that our students are worried about how the shift in schedule might impact their plans, and I think that having some certainty will help ease some anxiety.

I hope to see you at the CV School Accountability Committee meeting on February 1 at 6:30 in the back of the library. We will continue our discussion about our unified improvement efforts, and I will seek additional feedback about how to allocate our budget in alignment to our priorities. I would love to hear from and partner with you.

As always, thank you for sharing your kids with us. It is our honor to serve them.

J

NCAA lifts Standardized Test Requirements

GPA and Core-Course Requirements Remain

During the 2023 NCAA Convention, Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. The vote was based on the recommendation from the Standardized Test Score Task Force, a specialized group charged with reviewing initial-eligibility requirements as part of the NCAA's eight-point plan to advance racial equity.

Among other requirements, college-bound student-athletes planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school are still required to have a 2.3 (DI)/2.2 (DII) grade-point average in 16 NCAA-approved core-course units and provide proof of high school graduation. Division-specific information on initial-eligibility requirements is available here:

School Accountability Committee Update

The CVHS School Accountability Committee (SAC) met last week. We reviewed our unified improvement efforts, and the committee gave Dr. Templeton guidance about our priorities in regard to the 2023-24 Budget. You can view all SAC agendas and minutes HERE.

Our next meeting will be held on Feb 1, 2023 at 6:30pm. Our focus will continue to be on budget.

SAC is a great way to be involved with the school and be informed of happenings at CV. We are looking to elect to new officers for the 2023-2024 school year. If you are interested in running for a position, please attend our April 5 meeting at 6:30. If you have any questions, please contact Elizabeth Dissel: eanderson_23@Yahoo.com

Perseverance Scholarship Application

The primary purpose of these scholarships is to assist students who might not otherwise be able to continue their education and who demonstrate a unique ability to persevere through life's challenges. These scholarships are for one year only and may be used for any college or vocational program. Money is transferred directly to the recipient's postsecondary college or institution.

Please submit this completed application by Friday, February 17, 2023 at 3pm.

Scholarship recipients and their parents will be invited to attend a District Administrator's meeting in May for an awards presentation where high school principals will present the awards. We encourage the student's family, counselor, and a favorite teacher (from any grade) to also attend. Please refer questions to your high school counselor.

Criteria For Selection:
Scholastic Record - Include your GPA and any test score available.
School/Community work experience should be included in the space provided.
Applicant's responses to short essay questions.
Financial Need - The need for financial assistance is a major factor of consideration. A parent/guardian must sign in the space designated. Your application will not be considered if information for this section is missing or incomplete.

Volunteer Opportunity!

We are in search of several adult volunteers to proctor Advanced Placement exams in early May 2023. Volunteer proctors will allow our teachers and special service providers to stay in classrooms helping students learn rather than proctoring half-day exams.

Commitment: One 90-minute training in mid-April 2023 and one four-hour morning or afternoon session May 1-5 or 8-12 2023. All training will be provided.
