PLP (conference) times were sent home with your child last week on an orange sheet. Please return at your earliest convenience! If they have been lost, be sure to email me.
News from Ms. Hess
In math this week we opened our first chapter on fractions - learning to multiply fractions first. We are exploring making equivalent fractions, naming the parts of a fraction, and then modeling multiplying a whole number by a fraction.
In literacy this week, we began an individual biography project where your child is becoming an expert about a noteworthy individual. Fifth graders were able to select an individual of their choice from My Capstone Library, collect facts about the person, and investigate the obstacles and solutions this person experienced.
Next week, we will collect information from a second source and start to write a script for recording a Buncee report in collaboration with Mrs. Fox. We are excited to collaborate with Mr. Andresen to allow our kids the choice of creating a large scale portrait, smaller background image, or large poster of their individual. All this amazing work will be on display on Art and Science night!
We also had a visit this week from our Iowa County Conservation Naturalist where we were able to learn about animal tracking and make a plaster of Paris cast of an animal's print.
