Harvard High School
Athletics and Activities Department
A 30-Second Timeout
Greeting from the Harvard Athletic Office. My name is Barry Gurvey and I am the new Athletic Director at Harvard. I started at Harvard in early July, but I have been involved in high school athletics my entire career. My first role in athletics was coaching softball then I became an Assistant Athletic Director. For the past ten years I have served as an Athletic Director. For me, nothing is better than watching high school athletes compete in their favorite sport(s).
With the school year now underway, I think it is important for you to know what sports are offered at Harvard High School and when they occur. In the fall we offer:
- Boys and Girls Cross Country
- Football
- Boys and Girls Golf
- Boys Soccer
- Volleyball
- Sideline Cheerleading for Football
All of the fall sports began on August 8th and will run into mid to late October.
In the winter Harvard offers:
- Boys and Girls Basketball
- Boys and Girls Bowling
- Competitive Cheerleading
- Wrestling
- The winter sports season begins in late October through mid-November, depending on the sport.
In the spring your son or daughter can participate in:
- Boys and Girls Track
- Baseball
- Girl Soccer
- Softball
More specific information will come out as the start dates of each sport draws closer. However, if you ever have a question about getting your son or daughter involved in athletics or anything else related to our programs, do not hesitate to reach out to myself or my assistant (Sarai Juarez) and we would be glad to answer your questions. Multiple studies have shown that students involved in athletics do better in the classroom and this success carries over into their adult life. Let us know how we can get your student involved!! I hope to see you at a Harvard athletic event in the near future.

Boys Golf
"The boys golf team has set some lofty goals for themselves this year. Returning KRC Player of the Year Logan Garafol, past Sectional Qualifiers Myles Brincks and Aaron Saucedo and the emergence and growth of Connor Pedersen and Justin Lehmann put the team in a great place. Fielding a full 14 man roster the team also welcomes newcomers Adam Cooke, Coen Dacy, Eltan Powles, John Witt, and Mason Kriete to the team. Good luck this season!"
-Coach Petska
Girls Golf
Head Coach: Casey Seyller
"This year the Ladies Golf team has opened up the season with three meets already and improving everyday. Aaralynn Schneider has been the teams top golfer shooting a 112 at the RCC Invite and scoring the best round at Nippersink against the Richmond Rockets. With only three ladies on the team they look to keep building on their strengths and getting better every time out. We look forward to working hard every day and hope to get Aaralynn into the sectional meet!!"
-Coach Seyller
Cross Country
Assistant Coach: Armando Valdes
Last year’s finish: Boys: 3rd in conference.
Girls: no team score
Top returning runners:
Boys: Jared Gonzalez, Jr., Manny Pineda, Jr.
Girls: Christina Koleno, Sr.
Top new runners: David Gonzalez, Sr., Emily Ocampo Figueroa, So.
"Worth noting: Koleno has high expectations in returning for her senior year and qualifying for All-conference again. She will take aim on qualifying for sectionals in her senior year. Jared Gonzalez and Manny Pineda hope to lead a small squad into a great conference finish. They hope to make their first qualifying finish for sectionals."
-Coach Koza
Boys Soccer
Assistant coach: Brandon Barry and Cristian Juarez
"We are trying to rebuild off of the success we had over the summer. We have a lot of pieces to fit together and are trying to see where everyone can help. I feel that we are really deep in all positions. It’s about continuing to improve and finding the chemistry between the players. We look forward to competing in conference and in the tournaments that we are in. Hopefully, we lay a good foundation for success in the postseason."
-Coach Gonzalez
Football
Head Coach: Sean Saylor
Assistant Coach: Tom Lehman, Adam Schultz, David Schultz, Greg Aldridge, Tyler Pennington, Lucas Hunt, and Michael Godek
"We graduated a solid senior group from the 2021 squad. Landon Barnett RB, QB LB, Gabe Sanchez OL / LB & Wyatt Lamz OL/ DL Aiden Fiegel and Aidan Gomez will be returning. We are excited for the potential of multiple ball carriers on offense. A few new names will have the opportunity to carry the ball and see what they can do.We have quite a few holes to fill as we graduated a solid offensive line and backfield in last year's senior class. Our youth has had the opportunity to develop and be relied upon early. Landon Barnett has stepped up into a new role and handled it very well. Wyatt Lamz, Lucas Waldo, Jacob Krass, Brian Cordova, Sean Ritschke have taken on bigger roles and hope to continue to develop through August. Defensively, Sean Ritschke, Lucas Waldo, Ryan Wiedner, Jacob Krass, and Brian Cordova will find time on the DL while Gabe Sanchez returns at LB with Angel Deleon, Riley Vest, Aidan Gomez, and Landon Barnett in the rotation while Aiden Fiegel returns in the defensive backfield."

"This year has been off to an incredible start. The HHS cheerleading squad has the highest number of athletes they have had in a while! The cheerleaders are constantly working on new skills. The varsity and JV squads continue to make huge gains each and every practice. Both coaches are beyond excited for these squads to represent Harvard Cheerleading this season!"
-Coach Behm
