Board Approves Final Adoption of Rollback to Millage Rate
On Thursday, August 11, Board members approved final adoption of the District’s proposed rollback of the millage rate from 18.099 mills for Calendar Year 2021 to 16.720 mills for Calendar Year 2022 (CY22). The Board approved tentative adoption of the CY22 Millage Rate during its meeting on July 21. This is the sixth consecutive year the District’s millage rate has been reduced.
A reduction in the millage rate from 18.099 mills to 16.720 mills will mean an average savings of $73.09 for a home with a fair market value of $150,000 in Macon-Bibb County. This is the average value of a home in Macon-Bibb, according to the Macon-Bibb Tax Commissioner’s Office.

Board Approves Amendment to Strategic Waiver School System Contract
On Thursday, August 11, Board members authorized the District's amendment to its Strategic Waiver School System contract as provided by the State Board of Education. The District entered into a Strategic Waiver School System (SWSS) contract with the State Board of Education several years back to gain the flexibility needed to improve student achievement and maximize the use of fiscal resources. Due to unforeseen circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, only two years of data was produced in the five-year term. For this reason, the State Board of Education has extended all SWSS contracts for two additional years to end on June 30, 2024.
The Georgia Department of Education stated, “SWSS contracts are intended to provide local school districts with the flexibility they need to increase student achievement. The system receives flexibility in the form of waivers of certain state laws, rules, and guidelines in exchange for greater accountability for increased student performance.”
Bibb County School District’s strategic waivers focus on the following four areas: increasing the personalized learning experiences of students; attracting and retaining effective teachers, leaders, and other staff; ensuring the financial stability of the District; and meeting the specific academic and social emotional needs of students.
