SVT & STEM Academy Newsletter
November 2022
Katie's Message:
Today we welcome in November and I have to admit that I'm still wondering where October disappeared to. We've been so fortunate with weather and incredibly busy at school, which means I'm struggling to admit we're two months into the school year.
November is a special time of year where we can focus on the many things we have to be appreciative of...family, friends, Veterans, our school community. I am continually in awe of our students and what they accomplish. Watching them complete Mini-Design just further reminds me that the students we have here at SVT are a special group. We were able to recognize a handful of students today for their GOPRO and PACE characteristics; a decision that gets more difficult to make each time around.
This month's PACE trait is Citizenship. My personal favorite day of the month is Community Day where we begin by celebrating and honoring those who have served in our armed forces and then spend time giving back to those in our surrounding community. This is a unique opportunity that most high schools do not have and that is not lost on me. To hear people at the local organizations highlight the difference each of our students make is really special. I thank our staff, families, and leadership program for helping to continue this tradition. I further challenge each of us to find other ways to give back, show gratitude, and offer thanks to others throughout the month.
With sincere appreciation, I thank each of our SVT students and families for creating such a wonderful place. Without you, our community would not be complete.
Kind regards,
Katie Louie
STA Bus Pass

SVT is no longer able to purchase youth bus passes to hand out to our students. Below is information on how to apply for a Zero Fare Riders License. Apply online by clicking the link below or pick up an application in the office.
Applications are now open for the Zero-Fare Riders License, which offers unlimited free rides for Connect card holders ages 6-18. This new Reduced Fare option will be available for use with a Connect card beginning October 1st.
The STA Summer Pass has been very successful and will be replaced with the Rider's License beginning October 1st. There will be a grace period through December 31, but we encourage youth to apply now.
The Zero-Fare Riders License allows youth access to parks, libraries, and youth programs available along STA routes throughout the region. The program aims to increase access to public transit for youth, developing future public transit users. The basic required documentation for Reduced Fare is all that is needed to apply for a Rider's License.

National Manufacturing Day - Video Highlights
SVT partnered with the Spokane Valley Chamber to kick off National Manufacturing Day by taking students to visit three of manufacturers to help expose them to a career in the manufacturing industry. Students were able to visit Wagstaff Inc., Altek Inc., and ACME Machine Works to learn firsthand manufacturing practices and inspire their potential future and innovative ideas in the industry. Check out the video highlights here!

SVT Rocket Camp

Our Advanced Engineering students designed an awesome ROCKET experience for Valleyfest in September. They shared their designs and information with other students and SVT held our first ever ROCKET CAMP fundraiser! It was an absolute BLAST for both the SVT students and our campers!
