Update on Mask Requirement in K-12 Schools

Dear Parents and Students,

We wanted to share information we received from the Arizona Department of Health Services today in light of Governor Ducey's executive order relaxing COVID-19 restrictions. AZDHS Emergency Measure 2020-04 is still in effect, requiring masks in all K-12 schools. Masking is one of the top mitigation strategies for safe in-person learning as recommended by the CDC.

Masks must be worn on school campuses, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.

Thank you,

Arizona Department of Education

STAND OUT COYOTES

STATE CHAMPION WRESTLERS

March 18th at Poston Butte High School seven of our wrestlers competed at the state tournament, with 3 of them leaving with medals. Cody Owen earned second place; Bubba Taunima and Seth Fernandez were Champions with perfect seasons in their weight class.

Bubba is a 2 year State Champion and placed 3rd as a Sophomore.

Seth earned 2nd place last year and came home with 1st this year.

The Coyotes finished 5th as a team.

Taniela "Bubba" Taunima

Bubba is a senior and 3 year varsity wrestler placing at the State tournament all 3 years with 2 State Championships. He finished his career with a perfect season, 23-0. Bubba is a 3 sport athlete at Combs and has earned a football scholarship at Southern Virginia University.

Coach Miller said about Taunima, "It is especially satisfying to witness success for a genuinely good guy."

Seth Fernandez

Seth is a senior and 4 year State placer with a 2nd place finish last year. Seth had an undefeated 2021 season, 23-0. He is a talented wrestler and feels vindicated for all of the hours of work and hurdles that he has overcome in his wrestling career. "This was redemption for him," Coach Miller said. "You could just tell the way he was wrestling, he was unstoppable."

COGNIA RE-ACCREDITATION

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Good wishes are extended to you and your loved ones as we navigate and adjust to life’s changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are inviting all parents and guardians to help us with input to improve our school. Surveys are a means to systematically engage all stakeholders in two-way communication. They provide school leaders and teachers with a lens into the thinking and perceptions of our stakeholders. We will analyze these results to measure our strengths and focus on our improvement needs.

We need parent and guardian input to share with our evaluation team.

Help the Coyotes with your time and ideas.

Please take a moment to complete the survey!

Have a great weekend.

COUNSELORS CORNER

Did you know??? We are down to the last weeks of the school year and it's getting busy! With graduation, state testing, and finishing all projects and work for the year, students (and staff) won't have a dull moment! Juniors are scheduled to take the AzSCI (formerly AIMS) test on April 8/9th, and Sophomores will be working on the AZMERIT April 15/16th, April 22/23rd, and April 29/30th. Students do better when they are on time, well rested, and with a good breakfast in their belly, so plan on getting a good night's rest and being early enough to get breakfast in the cafeteria.

Seniors, we are running out of time! Are you still working on Edgenuity? If so, let's work a little harder because May will be here before you know it. If you have less than what is required by the State of Arizona, you will not walk and you will not get your diploma, so be sure to put in your best efforts!

For Seniors who are looking for extra college money, several scholarships have been added to the Counseling page on the Combs High School site. Check often to see what you can apply for! Still have questions? CAC is offering information sessions, and AskBenji is still available for questions about FAFSA. Don't think your question falls under either category? Ask your counselor!
