SC For Ed Area Rep Update
June
Ways to Advocate in July:
- Hold a virtual July meeting for your area/district (WAY TO GO REPS WHO DID THIS IN JUNE!)
- Reach out to your school administrators and district/school board members. Encourage teachers in your area to talk to their school administrators and district officials regarding concerns with Covid and going back to school.
- Try to find school reps for each school in your area. The more people you have helping you and sharing information the better!
- Continue to encourage people to wear red on Wednesdays and post on your area Facebook group

From Saani Perry, our new Diversity and Inclusion Officer:
SC for Ed is excited to embark on our diversity and inclusion branch! I will be serving as the Diversity & Inclusion Officer. I will be working with other organizations in relation to diversity and inclusion, and how they can partner with us in education. However, if you are working with organizations in your areas that focus heavily on diversity and inclusion that is perfectly fine. If you would like me to assist you in talking to these orgs, I don’t mind helping there either.
Our first set of actions are to:
1.) Establish a list of culturally relevant and anti racist resources for educators. These are posted to our site.
2.) Develop a list of children’s literature related to diversity and publish it to our site.
3.) Engage in monthly diversity round tables discussing a wide variety of topics related to diversity and inclusion in schools.
4.) Establish SC for Ed’s Education Coalition. This coalition will consist of a wide variety of individuals who are engaged in education in some form or fashion. This coalition will assist SC for Ed in implementing actions and releasing statements that will positively impact that majority of facets in education.

While I appreciate the sciences, what took root in my soul was a desire to not just help humans stay alive, but to discover and express what they were staying alive for. I am therefore passionate about advocating for students and teachers to be listened to, supported and fully funded, so public education becomes more than forced test-prep but instead supports students on their journey to realizing and communicating their greatness to the world with clarity and confidence. Likewise, this continually motivates me since it is in the lives and minds of our students that every solution to build a better world is waiting to be shared."
