Science- Marking Period 2 Update
7A Team - Mrs. Prescott
I can't believe we are already a quarter of the way through our year!
News From My Students
Science in 7th grade is very different than 6th grade science. That’s because there is more hands on labs and fun projects. Normally we start with a topic in the beginning. Then, we take notes from that topic. Next, we then do sheets on the formula of the topic. Finally, we do a fun lab based on the topic with a partner. Working with a partner helps with doing the work and makes the experiment more fun. Some labs we did were the color lab, the triple beam balance lab,and the friction lab. Even though the labs are fun they are also very educational. 7th grade science is fun for all students, even if they aren’t science lovers. -Salihah (p2)
I like friction -Gavin (p8)
I enjoyed the Friction Lab where we had a Spring Scale and a sled (made out of wood) attached to each other and with some wood on top of the sled going up a few books -Elijah (p5)
I enjoyed the lab where we mixed different colored water and measured how much water there was and saw the color it made -Kenny Mc (p2)
I enjoyed all the fun activities and labs we have done in class -Zach M (p2)

Opportunity for Extra Credit Project in December
As part of our next unit, Work and Simple Machines, students have the opportunity to complete an optional, extra credit project at home! Students can earn up to 5 points on their 2nd Marking Period average by designing and building their own Rube Goldberg Machine. Students may chose to work individually or with a partner and family involvement is encouraged. More information will be available for anyone who is interested in late November and projects will be due in early January! Check out the official Rube Goldberg page to learn a little more.
Class Website and Schoology
Student resources such as notes, activities, and review guides are posted in Schoology. This makes them easily accessible to students from both school and home.
Some Important Notes about School Tool and Grade Slips
The schooltoolTM Parent Portal enables you to view your child’s upcoming assignments, grades, class averages, attendance and more. Extra copies of graded homework assignments and forms can often be printed from School Tool as well.
I aim to enter upcoming assignments into the system as often as possible, but I can not guarantee all work will be added prior to due dates. Due dates indicated are approximate, as students have a rotating schedule in seventh grade.
If a science assignment is missing, a 0 will be entered and this assignment should be turned in ASAP. Students can often still earn FULL credit for this work, but it needs to be made up! A blank simply means that a score has not been entered yet. Sometimes students are excused from an assignment and “EX” appears as the score. This will have no affect on the student's average.
I also send home paper science grade slips to be signed at least once per marking period, usually about 7 to 8 weeks into the quarter. “Dropped” on a grade slip means that the homework grade was the lowest score and automatically dropped due to a "Free Homework Pass" in my computer. Students are allowed to miss one homework assignment each marking period with no penalty. (One homework assignment will always appear as "dropped" even when every assignment has been done.)
You can sign-up for your The schooltoolTM Parent Portal account on the District’s website at www.bscsd.org .
