Principal's Message
Dear LaSalle II Families-
It has been a wonderful 2 weeks with all students back in the building! We have very much enjoyed having the student energy and joy filling our classrooms.
Unfortunately, we have already had a few positive covid cases reported. This has resulted in full homerooms and some individual students being quarantined based on CPS contact tracing. We anticipated that this would happen at some point and we continue to remain confident in our mitigation strategies within the school. We ask that you continue to remain diligent with mitigation strategies outside of the school to limit the virus entering our school building.
Also, be sure to familiarize yourself with the flow charts below that outline how various scenarios will be handled. I will be holding a virtual Town Hall on Monday, September 13th at 8am to provide more details. The meeting will be recorded and distributed to all families.

FAQ's Regarding Positive Covid Cases
What happens if my child is supposed to quarantine but they come to school?
Please avoid this scenario by checking your email and text messages. Schools have one care room and one care room attendant. Since your child was exposed to covid, they will have to sit in the care room until you are able to pick them up, putting them in a room with other students who may exhibit illnesses.
What happens if I hear that another family tested positive, but we have yet to hear anything from the school?
Please encourage everyone to report positive COVID cases to http://cps.edu/covidresults AND directly inform the school administration. Unfortunately, we cannot take action on cases that are not directly reported by the positive case.
Is there a delay between when a family notifies CPS and when LaSalle II may take action needed to quarantine families?
We will flip homerooms to remote as soon as we are notified of a positive case.
Will all students in the classroom be quarantined due to a positive case?
Since classrooms are considered congregate settings, all students will be quarantined until CPS completes their contact tracing. The only exception would be students who are vaccinated and not showing symptoms, or a student happened to be absent during the positive students contagious period.
How quickly will my child be provided remote work or simultaneous instruction, if they need to quarantine?
This will begin 24 business hours after notification in order to give the teacher time to prepare.
How long will this guidance be in place?
As of now, this process will be in place for the foreseeable future. In order to avoid having students in quarantine, please make sure to continue mitigation efforts outside of school.
Circumstances for Remote Learning
In the event that a student is unvaccinated and requires quarantine or isolation as directed by the OSHW or CDPH, remote instruction will be provided. It is important to note that remote instruction will only be offered if a student meets these requirements. Remote instruction will not be offered for students who choose to stay home, or who are otherwise sick and unable to attend school. If your student requires quarantine or isolation, you will receive specific instructions from your school on how to ensure that they are able to access remote instruction during this period of time.
Finally, it is important to note that parent refusal to take a child to school is not an ISBE-approved reason for an excused absence. Accordingly, if a student is absent from school due to parent refusal, the student will be marked absent unexcused.
When school leaders are notified that students must isolate or quarantine, they will have a 24 hour (school day) period to communicate with educators, students and families and prepare for remote learning to begin.
Note: Students who need to quarantine due to travel do not qualify for remote learning.
