Saint Lawrence Every Friday Note
January 6, 2023
Welcome Back!
We have had a wonderful first week back at St. Lawrence. As we turned the page on the calendar, we also have some changes at school. We welcome Mrs. Mackenzie Ruberry back to our staff. We made a switch to our 4th grade structure and have split the class into two separate classrooms due to the size. Mrs. Ruberry will be teaching one of these classes.
Additionally, our class schedules in some cases needed to be adjusted due to a few other staff changes. Ultimately, I feel good about the schedule changes and am excited about where St. Lawrence is headed.
Along the same lines, the teachers have been working on packets for remote learning for hazardous weather events. It is possible that students may come home with a packet of work for the following day of remote learning if it is determined to be too dangerous to travel. Communication about school closings and delays will be made via School Messenger, Smore (this app), social media (Facebook and Twitter) as well as your child's teacher. Also, worth noting at this point, is that when the schedule for this school year was built, it included a built in extra day of school. We are currently scheduled for 181 days of school in the event that a day is needed for unforeseen reasons. That day could potentially be used as a free snow day or, if it is not needed, the last day of school would be moved up one day. A decision on the usage of this day will be made as needed or when we have moved out of the winter weather and are more confident that it will not be needed for weather related purposes.
Dress Code Reminder
- In order to participate in PE or play in the gym for indoor recess, students must wear gym shoes. Shoes with dark soles leave many marks and damage the surface of the gym.
- As is written in the handbook, false or fake nails are not permitted.
- Hoodies are not permitted to be worn unless it is spirit wear on Thursdays. All sweatshirts, sweatshirts, and long sleeve shirts, no matter if it is the outer or inner layer of clothing must be solid or plain red, black or gray.
Calendar Reminders
January 12 and 13- Vision Screening
January 16- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (No School)
Eucharistic Revival
One of the great things happening at Saint Lawrence Catholic School is our participation in the National Eucharistic Revival. This year, we have had a few holy hours of adoration as a school in which we spend time with the presence of Jesus. Recently, the US bishops discerned that it was our Mother Mary, under the title Our Lady of Guadalupe, who would be the patroness of the National Eucharistic Revival. As we get ready to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe this weekend and Monday, the timing could not have been better.
In addition, Blessed Carlo Acutis is the patron of the Year of Parish Revival! Blessed Carlo Acutis is a millennial who is on his path to sainthood and is already considered to be the "Patron Saint of the Internet". We studied him in one of our morning meetings as a saint of the day. This is an exciting time for the church.
