Even More Information
Grades 1-2 will give a musical "informance." This event name indicates that we will be sharing the warm-ups, songs, games, dances, etc. that are the organic ways that children develop their musical skills. It is to inform the parents of our regular music class activities, in contrast to a "performance," which does not resemble natural musical play. At these informances, the students and their parents will sit in a large circle in the cafeteria and participate together. It will be far more intimate than an all-school concert.
Event Information
Grades 3-6 HES Band & Family Folk Dance Event
Our music sharing event will begin with a showcase of our incredibly talented 5th and 6th graders with Mr. Longstreeth conducting.
Next, parents will be invited to become dance partners with their children while Fire Pond provides live music for folk dancing with grades 3-6 and Mrs. Corwin calls the dance moves.

Even More Information
The Grades 3-6 music event will have two parts. First, the HES Fifth and Sixth Grade Bands will play in a traditional concert format. Then, we will have everyone pitch in for a massive rearrangement of the room and have a family folk dance. Fire Pond, the folk group that performed for us in January, is returning to provide live music thanks to a generous grant from STArHS. The students in grades 3-6 will have pre-learned two or three folk dances in longways set formations. The floor will be marked so that each of the eight classes will have their own dancing space, and parents and teachers will be encouraged to dance with their students! We will do a walkthrough, which means a practice of the choreography without music, before dancing with the live music. Mrs. Corwin will continue to call out the dance moves throughout. The dancing will be planned and executed with inexperienced dancers in mind. We're going for maximum participation. This folk dance event is an exciting model of music sharing because it represents our authentic, local musical heritage; it is a richer and more intimate experience for all than a traditional vocal music concert; and the students LOVE partner dancing.
