TUMUAKI KŌRERO
Kia ora e te whānau,
Thank you for your support and understanding during another disruptive start to the 2023 school year. For those of you who have endured flood and cyclone damage to your properties over the last three weeks, we are here to support you in any way we can.
As a school, we focus on minimising disruptions and maximising learning opportunities in response to the challenges we face. Please be reassured that we will continue with this approach as the year progresses to ensure that excellent learner progress, achievement and opportunities are maintained.
Staffing News: Chantal Hair will be on maternity leave from 24 April. Yvette Wong has been appointed and will be the classroom teacher in Room 19 for the remainder of the year.
ERO (Education Review Office): For the last 18 months, we have worked closely with ERO. This is an ongoing process where we meet regularly with our school reviewer to progress our school goals. Please see attached profile report TNIS ERO.
TNIS Curriculum Information Evening: Thursday, 23 February, 7.00 pm in the school library. Come and hear what teaching and learning look like at TNIS. This session will discuss how we implement the New Zealand Curriculum, what the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) is and how we assess the progress and achievement of learners.
E kore tātau e mōhio ki te waitohu nui o te wai kia mimiti rawa te puna - We never know the worth of water until the well runs dry. (Look after the planet before it is too late)

SCHOOL NEWS AND INFORMATION
Important Information
School Swimming Sports: Due to the weather we have rescheduled the TNIS Swimming Sports day to Tuesday 21st of February. Learners will be heading to TGS for half a day with Year 7's competing from 9:30 - 11:30 AM and the year 8's competing from 11:45 AM - 2:00 PM. All learners will be back at school well before the bell at 3 PM. It is vital that all learners bring
- A Hat
- Drink Bottle
- Morning tea & Lunch
- Togs and Towel
Picking up your child after school: We will no longer be allowing parents to park on the school courts at the end of the day. We have a few carparks available in our main carpark but we strongly encourage you to organise an alternative place to pick up your child. The Barfoot and Thompson Netball Courts, down Northcote Road, is a short walk for our learners and there is plenty of parking available there at 3 pm. Our main driveway is closed to cars between 2.50 pm and approx 3.15 pm while we load learners onto the three buses that come into our school. Please do not attempt to enter during this time. We also cannot let cars turn right out of the driveway until the buses have departed.
School Uniform: Thank you for helping your child to be dressed in the correct school uniform each morning. We expect every learner to come to school in their formal school uniform. Socks must be black or navy blue, and their formal school shoes must have plain black uppers. White soles are permitted. Please check that your child’s formal school shoes do not have white or coloured logos on them. Children can bring an alternative pair of sports shoes to change into for PE and Fitness if they wish.
TNIS Cafe: There have been huge queues at the Cafe this week! We encourage all learners to pre-order their lunch food through kindo so they are not waiting a long time to get their lunch. This pre-ordered food will be delivered to their classroom, ready to eat, at the start of lunchtime. This also helps our Cafe manager to have the right amount of food for the learners. Learners are welcome to buy additional snacks for cash only, during morning tea and after the lunch-eating time has finished.
Earrings: For the safety of our learners we ask that you check that they are only wearing stud earrings to school. We have had several incidents in the past where hoop or longer earrings have been pulled out of earlobes during PE, sports and fitness activities, causing bad injuries.

The Resilience Project
At TNIS all are lucky enough to have The Resilience Programme (TRP) within our school. Each week learners will do 1-2 lessons in their classroom. Each week in the newsletter we will explain more about TRP and how it works, that way you are on the same page as your child and understand what they are learning.
Snapshot 1:
The Resilience Project The Resilience Project is committed to teaching positive mental health strategies to prevent mental ill-health and build young people’s capacity to deal with adversity.
Teachers and students will engage in weekly lessons and activities around the key principles of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy to build resilience.
Check out their website for more information: The Resilience Project
