In Case You Missed It...
CONGRATULATIONS to Hannah Thomas for being awarded funding for her Bright Ideas Grant she submitted in September. She received enough money to purchase 30 pedometers for our gym classes. Friday, November 21st Hannah will be honored along with other winners across the state at a luncheon in Raleigh.
We had over 120 people in attendance at our football banquet at Ron's Barn on Monday evening. Players, families, and coaches spent the evening celebrating their division championship and super season under the new coaching staff. Special thanks goes out to Athletic Director, Courtney Jordan, for organizing this event.
All our custodians were in attendance to be honored at this month's board meeting when they received their second "Clean School of the Month" in a row this year. Monica Hawes, Freddie Atkins, Alice McIver, Nick Szakley, and Nathan Faulk take pride in providing a safe and clean building for us all to come and work in every day. Mrs. Derr took them all to Cracker Barrel for breakfast on Monday to celebrate their victory and a job well done.
At press time, Ellen Duncan has not had her baby, but will be induced on Monday if he has not chosen to come on his own by then. I promise to keep you in the loop when I hear anything. Daniel Reams has transitioned in beautifully and is keeping our art students creating and learning.
Erica Mentzer will be back from her maternity leave on Monday, November 17. YAY!!!! Erica is fortunate to have her mother taking care of her baby boy, Phillip. We have benefitted by having Gracie Williams with Josh Schneider to ensure their students has been supported and continued to learn and grow while Erica was out. THANK YOU Gracie!!!
I want to give a shout out to DJ Clemmons and for carrying on with "buisness as usual" on 7th grade hallway while we have searched for the right teacher to fill the math position. Our children have responded well to his high expectations and calm demeanor for the last month. Lee County Schools Board approved Markie Ray to join our team to teach 7th grade math. She is coming to us from Cumberland County, where she has previously taught 5th grade and middle school math. Her first official day is Monday, November 17, but she is supposed to be around here Friday getting to know SanLee.
Please stop by the PLC room and see the redecorating that Ashley Capps has been doing the last couple of weeks. Don't miss the shelves at the back of the room which can be overlooked if you just pop your head in the door. According to Ashley the room is still not complete. According to those that have been in, it is a warm and inviting space. There is no doubt as to what school you are in when you are there ;)
There was a fantastic turnout for report card pick up on Thursday. The building was full and buzzing all afternoon and early evening. Thank you to 6th and 7th grade teachers for making yourself accessible for our famililes and making that home/school connection even stronger.
Look for a Symbaloo to be coming on the Frequent Hot Spots page for teachers on our webpage...Useful training Danita Russell!
