Owyhee High School Late Work & Reassessment Policy
Owyhee High School Late Work & Reassessment Policy:
· At OHS we recognize that students learn at different times when content is being taught. We also recognize the importance of teaching lifelong traits and habits like accountability, timeliness, and responsibility.
· Teachers will communicate the end date of each unit to students, both written and verbally.
· Students will be allowed to turn in formative assessments given anytime during that unit for full credit.
· After the unit is over, a teacher may not accept late work.
· Reassessments of tests/summative assessments are at the discretion of the teacher.
· Teachers will have the discretion to request students to demonstrate additional learning before reassessing.
o Examples of additional learning could be attending intervention, meeting one-on-one with the teacher, etc...
· If a student is absent when an assignment or test is due, the assignment or test will be due/taken on their return to that class.
· Students missing multiple days while an assessment was assigned will be given the number of school days gone to turn in that assignment.
o ie: A student missing three days of school will be allowed three school days to complete the assignment.
· If a student is marked “Truant” or “Unverified” they may not be allowed to complete the assignment or retake the assessment. It is important that parents call in all absences to the attendance office within 48 hours of the absence.
*Please note that con-current credit and AP courses may follow different guidelines dictated from the university or College Board in order to receive college credit.

OHS Freshman Katelyn Yoakum Wins Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year!
Katelyn Yoakum (freshman at OHS) is the winner of the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year Award.
Katelyn completed a written application with essays, an interview with the Youth of the Year judges the evening before the event, and the delivery of her speech at Youth of the Year. Candidates for Youth of the Year are selected based on their values of leadership, service, academic performance, and healthy lifestyles.
Katelyn has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County for 7 years. She is currently serving as Keystone Vice President and has previously participated in Torch Club and a wide variety of other Club programs. As Youth of the Year, Katelyn plans to use her platform to advocate for mental health resources to be more accessible to youth across the country. Katelyn's personal quote is, "Things don't always work out the way you want them to, but that doesn't mean they can 't still be good." Katelyn's Youth of the Year award included a $4000 scholarship. Katelyn will go on to regionals to represent the Boys & Girls Club of Ada County.

Important Laptop Information
- The Library has loaner laptops and chargers for students to borrow if they forget theirs. Due to many contributing factors, we will be changing our policy on Monday and students will now need to leave some type of "collateral", like keys, driver's license, or phone until they return the laptops and/or chargers they borrowed.
- The Library has collected many lost chargers from teachers who find them in the classroom. Please note, chargers are $17 each and not covered by insurance. Please check with your students to see if they still have their charging cord. If not, have them check with their teachers and then come to the Library to see if we have it in our lost & found. This would be a good time for your students to label their chargers.

News from the Health Office
Parents, will you have an incoming senior student for the 2022-2023 school year?
If so, this is a great time to complete the immunization requirement for senior students. Incoming seniors are required to obtain a second Meningococcal (MCV4/Menactra) vaccine or have parent/guardian complete a vaccine exemption form to meet Idaho’s current school immunization requirements.
With the start of a new semester, just a reminder to parents and students that the goal in the Health Office is to keep students healthy and safe. With that being said, please assist your student in staying home when ill, and reserve the health office for acute illness or injury visits. Students are strongly encouraged to carry and self-administer a one day’s dose of over the counter (OTC) medication such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Tums with parental consent.

Tardy Policy/Saturday Detention
Students are allowed a total of 3 tardies (T/TL combined) in each class per semester.
- A tardy (T) is defined as being up to 10 minutes late.
- A Tardy Late (TL) is more than 10 minutes late to class.
A parent call does not excuse a tardy or tardy late. OHS waives a student's tardy when buses arrive late or when other extenuating circumstances arise per administrative approval.
30 minutes of Saturday detention = 1 tardy served
Failure to attend Saturday detention when assigned will result in additional consequences. A student must arrive to Saturday detention prior to 8am in the cafeteria. A student will not be allowed to enter tardy detention after 8am.
If a student does not make up their tardies (T/TL combined) BEFORE the end of the semester they may lose credit for any unserved tardy above 3 per class. This is indicated by an “NC” on their transcript and can have an effect on their graduation progress.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your student's grade level Assistant Principal:

This series is based on more than 20 years of research conducted by psychologists, doctors, teachers, parents and family members like you and is designed to help support parents as they take an active role in helping their teen navigate adolescence.
We invite you to use this resource! Each edition will be embedded in the OHS Parent Newsletter. We encourage you to read each edition and discuss the information with your high school student.
