Federalists

George Washington
The first president of the united states. Was one of the people that led the federalists. Followed the policies of Hamilton.
Alexander Hamilton
A secretary. called for an Economic policy that would strengthen national government. Wanted to pay the Revolutionary war dept, assume the states dept from the war, create National Bank, and pas protective tariffs.
Federalists
Led by George Washington and Alexander Hamilton. Favored the policies of Hamilton. Was supported by the Low Country.
Assuming the State Dept
The federalist supported the assuming of states dept. The Federal Government used the state's dept to pay for the Revolutionary War. The Federal Government passed a high protective tariff to reassure Americans to make goods and not buy them over seas.
Creation of National Bank
The National Bank was the biggest controversy between the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The Federalists argued that Congress had received the authority to make all laws "necessary and proper" to the execution of its powers
French Revolution
The French tried to overthrow there king and at the same time France and Britain were at war. The Federalists sided with Britain to assure the trade market.
Power of National Government
The Federal Government wanted the Federalists to have more power then the state powers. Wasn't balanced with the states powers.
Alien and Sedition Acts
Federalists designed it to silence and weaken the Democratic-Republican Party and to silence its newspapers. Democratic-Republican claimed that the Federalists Violated the freedom of rights.
War with Britain in 1812
Britain would stop american ships and force the sailors to become the British navy. Congress passed the Embargo act to stop shipping or trading. The United States declared War on Great Britain in 1812.Brought new surge of Nationalism.
