Grade Level Break Down for the Week
Kindergarten and 1st Grade-Using Alison McGhee's A Very Brave Witch, we talked about and celebrated differences. Students then completed the story extension of creating and drawing a Halloween costume for a character in the story.
2nd grade/3rd grade- Using the book Where Are My Books by Deborah Ohi, we did a fun story extension. The 2nd graders created an original illustration to turn the book into a Halloween story. The 3rd grade did a writing exercise using the same book. They added a Halloween chapter to the story. They were such fun to read!
4th grade-In addition to highlighting new titles of interest to 4th graders, we talked about scary stories and what makes a successful scary story.
5th grade-We continued to explore the concept of memoirs and also shared some spooky stories for Halloween. We also talked about the visit from a librarian from the Wilmette Library and the resources they offer our students.
6th grade-We talked about the resources presented by the Wilmette Public Library librarian who visited us on Monday. We talked more about spooky stories and how they are constructed. I also talked with the students about the 6th grade book review group we are going to be starting.
7th grade- Mrs. Pritchard and the 7th graders continued with fun STEM projects this week.
8th grade-We are getting ready for next week when the 8th grade students will bring their kindergarten buddies with them to library. We spent this week going over what is happening developmentally with 5 and 6 year olds. It was fun to ask the 8th graders what they had observed so far this school year during their time with their buddies. How quickly the 8th graders have forgotten what they were like when they were in Kindergarten!
