Possible activities include: Rafting trip, checking out the Denver Zoo, might catch a Rockies or Rapids game. There are many art museums and interesting sites in Denver, along with other things to see and do!
You can find information and register on oascok.org by clicking the Nationals link on the home page or clicking the embedded link below. Please note you need to register through the form on the OASC website, not the NATSTUCO website. Why we start so early is that Oklahoma is one of the few states that does an extensive pretrip, so we have to book flights when they open six months in advanced. Thanks for your understanding on these deadlines.
Information from the NASSCED Meeting in Des Moines December 5th-6th
Terri lines the perimeter of the room with books, games, exercises for classrooms, stickers and cards--my two book choices were the Generation Z Unfiltered by Tim Elmore and Failed It! by Erik Kessels. Currently dealing with this generation both at home and work, it offers insights into the 9 challenges young teens and young adults are dealing with and ho to help them address those realities. Elmore is famously quoted as saying that we've been so busy helping kids that they are helpless. Also, sign up for his blog--choose a chapter and in thirty minutes your will learn something. Failed It! by Erik Kessels is a perfect companion to Generation Z in that it challenges us to change our mindset to be inspired by errors and learn to put ourselves out there for total humiliation in the name of doing something totally unique.
And then Terri does a Resource session. Did you know Brene Brown has provided an entire leadership curriculum for educators for FREE! Incredible resources, videos, lesson plans and downloads. Find the link below!
I'm forever in love with Character Strong--I'm working on bringing their Advisory curriculum to Norman High. Check out the Character Strong podcasts on your favorite provider--10 minute programs that are perfect for a commute and get ideas going.
Walgreeens has a Expressions Challenge where teens are encouraged to use their voice through area to communicate their perspectives on topics including bullying, self-esteem and sexual responsibility--I've already shared this with the amazing art teachers in my building as well.
Live Inspired is a fantastic website with inspirational gifts, books, cards, videos. There is an application to complete.
Action for Happiness is committed to building a happier and more caring society. Full of cool handouts, videos, ideas and resources to take action to making the world a happier place.
