Welcome Readers!
Genre of the Month - Poetry
Why poetry?
This genre of writing helps kids learn vocabulary, recognize rhythm patterns, break information into parts, strengthen their listening skills, and form conclusions. It can also help them with making inferences (what comes next?) and memory skills. And lots of poems (especially Shel Silverstein) are just plain funny! So try some poetry, you just might love it!
To market, to market, to buy a fat pig, home again, home again, jiggety jig!
Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon. The little dog laughed to see such sport, and the dish ran away with the spoon.
Mother Goose
Listen to the mustn'ts, child. Listen to the don'ts. Listen to the shouldn'ts, the impossibles, the won'ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me... Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.
Shel Silverstein
