JBD FRIDAY FOCUS
APRIL 11, 2019 "Embrace the Adventure!"
Springing into appropriate school attire!
This note is to ask your help as parents with adherence to the dress code. We spoke to all of the students at an assembly recently about proper dress. Here are the basic guidelines:
For Girls:
- Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be finger tip length with arms straightened out by the side.
- No spaghetti straps-this also applies to our youngest gulls-if a dress, romper, or top has spaghetti straps, or straps thinner than a 4 finger width, then they must wear a sweater or top over it.
- We suggest that girls wear shorts under dresses.
For Boys:
- For boys, we also expect the same short length guideline, although that is rarely an issue.
- All shirts must have sleeves
Sneakers and socks preferred for all. If sandals are worn, they must have a back strap. No flip flops allowed.
Below are some pix of a few of our 'models' who agreed to pose to share what IS appropriate. Thank you so much for your help.
Have a wonderful spring break. We look forward to everyone's refreshed return to finish this school year strong!
Best wishes,
:)

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - APRIL 23
For families at the beginning of their educational journeys with Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS), the division is hosting the annual Kindergarten Registration and School Orientation event, which takes place on Tuesday, April 23, at 9 a.m.
Parents of children who will be 5-years-old on or before Sept. 30 are invited to attend this event.
While families can register their child for kindergarten any time leading up to the school year, this registration event includes an open house for future students and their parents, tours of the school and an overview of the kindergarten program. Students also will experience a school bus ride for the first time and meet with kindergarten teachers while parents fill out the necessary registration paperwork. Activities may vary by school.
Registration forms are available at www.vbschools.com. In order to register their child for kindergarten, parents need to bring the following documents:
- two proofs of address: 1) a lease agreement/mortgage statement; and 2) a current gas, electric or water bill
- a certified copy of the child's birth certificate
- a physical examination (dated within 12 months prior to starting kindergarten)
- a current immunization report
- two current emergency contact phone numbers
Parents can determine their child's zoned school for kindergarten by visiting the School Locator/Map Center on www.vbschools.com, or by calling their neighborhood school. Detailed registration information and an overview of the kindergarten program can be found on the division's kindergarten registration page, www.vbschools.com.
CLINIC CORNER

Eye appears pink/red with thick yellow discharge (matted eyelid after sleep)
Chicken Pox (stay home until all blisters are scabbed over or dry)
Persistent productive cough.
Extreme fatigue.
Antibiotics prescribed for an infection. Medicine must be taken for at least 24 hours before a child can return to school with a return to school note from the prescribing health care provider and must be fever free.
Students that are treated for a contagious illness. Healthcare provider must provide a back to school note to the school nurse.
Students taking fever-reducing medication to mask a fever.
The nurse will contact the parent of a student showing the above signs and symptoms and recommend that he/she are picked up from school. Please contact the school nurse should you have any questions.
