Fun With Firsties
September 26, 2016
Curriculum Highlights
Math-Topic 2 is now underway. Throughout this topic we will learn strategies to help us fluently add and subtract to 10. We will explore the strategy of counting on, using doubles, and using near doubles when adding.
Social Studies-We will continue our long-term study of community. This week we will explore the people that make up our Mayfield community.
First Grade Parent Coffee-Date Change!!
- We look forward to seeing you at the First Grade Parent Coffee on Monday, October 10 at 8:15 a.m. in the HPAC. You will have an opportunity learn more about first grade, hear from some of the first grade enrichment teachers, and have the opportunity to ask and hear answers to questions raised since Back to School night.
MJS School Families
- This week the children will begin meeting with their MJS School Families! Hopefully you received an email from your child's 8th grader who will serve as the family head.
- The 8th graders will come on Tuesday morning for a Meet and Greet activity with the first graders.
- On Thursday, the children will attend Mass together with their school families.
- We gather in MJS School Families on Friday morning from 8:00-8:25 a.m. Our first family meeting will be held on Friday, September 30. This meeting takes the place of our regular morning prayer time. For the first few weeks of this program, the children will be picked up by the 7th or 8th grade family member from the first grade classroom area.
- Please make every effort to arrive to school before 8:00 on Friday morning. It makes for a much easier transition time if your child has plenty of time to meet up with their MJS family member prior to the school bell ringing at 8:00 a.m.!
Faith In First
We painted pictures in the sky about the things we share with one another. We listened to the story from this Sunday's gospel about Lazarus, the beggar, and how the rich man had no time for him. We know how to take time to love others by reaching out to them with our time, our treasure and our talents. We know Jesus is always with us at Mass, in our families, and in our hearts.
