"Unlock the Treasure in Every Child" - February 7, 2022

Big picture

This week our students will learn about Humility. The definition of Humility is formed around humble people having an accurate (not underestimated) sense of their abilities and achievements. They hold the capacity to acknowledge their mistakes and limitations, and are open to advice and new ideas. They do not show off their possessions or accomplishments.

The parent virtue for Humility is Temperance. Strengths of temperance protect us from excess. Strengths comprised in this virtue are forgiveness, humility/modesty, prudence, and self-control.

Please use these quotes and videos to host a discussion with your children.

"True humility is staying teachable, regardless of how much you already know." ~Unknown

"We learned about gratitude and humility - that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean...and we were taught to value everyone's contribution and treat everyone with respect." ~Michelle Obama

PTA Book Fair!!

The Book Fair is coming to Buckhorn Creek Elementary the week of Feb 7 – Feb 11! All purchases at the Book Fair give back 50% of the total sales in the form of free books to the school and teachers.

Your student will preview the Book Fair to create a wish list during school. Students will be able to shop the Book Fair during the day at school and at Family Night. Students can pay with cash, check, or eWallet.

You can create a digital payment (called eWallet) by visiting our School Book Fair website below. You can create an account and add funds. The students can shop with the electronic funds at the Book Fair so you don’t have to worry about lost cash or check. Any un-used funds are returned to the family.

The 2022 Book Fair will run Monday Feb 7 – Friday Feb 11. Family night, where all families are welcome, is Wednesday Feb 9 from 5pm to 8pm in the Media Center. If you can’t make Wednesday night, don’t worry, we have a make-up family shopping time on Thursday Feb 10 from 4:30pm -5:15pm. You can also shop the on-line Book Fair at our link above.

We can use your help as well! To sign up to help run the Book Fair, please use the link below:

Bus Driver Appreciation Week!!

Please find time to write a note of appreciation for your bus drivers. They have worked especially long hours this year driving extra routes while also making sure each child arrives home safely. Acknowledging their dedication is one way we can show our appreciation.

Meal Benefits Application

Please consider applying for meal benefits as soon as possible . By submitting a qualifying application, families will also support the district in qualifying for additional funds to support students and learning! Also, the NC Department of Health & Human Services is collecting student free and reduced lunch and attendance data from WCPSS to determine any additional Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT) that will be issued in the coming months! By not applying for these meal benefits, you will miss the potential opportunity to receive direct P-EBT funds for your family!

Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June 2022 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra education funding next school year. Also, this ensures your student is covered for the first few weeks of school next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits can be found at Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.
