Build and maintain trusting relationship with students
- Schedule intentional time in the day for community building that allows students and staff to share about themselves
- Listen and respond with empathy
- Bring positive energy to school each day
- Be consistent
Provide a welcoming, safe, supportive learning environment
- Greet students by name
- Maintain predictable daily rituals and routines to build trust and safety
- Show caring communication through welcoming actions and words.

- Provide warm goodbyes at the end of each day.

TIERED ATTENDANCE INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS FOR TEACHERS
TIER 1
- Prioritize relationship and personal connections.
- Take and report accurate attendance daily.
- Make sure students and parents are aware of the protocol for missed days.
- Recognized students for good and/or improved attendance.
- Initiative private conversations with students when they are absent and listen to identify root causes.
- Encourage classmates to contact and support one another when students are absent.
- Teach lessons and provide explicit instruction on the importance of attending school and ways to develop good attendance habits.
- Model expectations for attendance. Be mindful of your own absences as a teacher.
- Welcome each student back after an absence.

TIER 2
- Offer students opportunities to complete assignments and reconcile course credit they may have missed during absences.
- Facilitate check ins/check outs, which increase positive feedback, recognition, and adult attention.
- Communicate with families in a timely manner via letters, classdojo, emails, or phone calls when student is absent.
- Make home visits.
- Provide tutoring sessions for students who need extra academic. support.

TIER 3
- Refer student for higher level of intervention.
- For students who are served 504 or by special education an ARD meeting can be scheduled so teaches can help identify supports/services to improve attendance.

RESTORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS ON ATTENDANCE LESSONS
- Include evidence-based self-regulation areas and tools to help teach stress management, coping skills, and de-escalation strategies.
- Provide trauma-informed care.
- Incorporate restorative community circles to reflect on their absences utilizing restorative questions.
- Focus on SEL-explicit instruction to teach SEL competencies and skills related to the students infraction, such as responsible decision making and self management.
- Communicate positive and motivational messaging on classdojo, email, classroom walls, and morning check ins.
