Shine Bright with Supt. Rebecca A. Jenkins
Dear District 70 Families:
This month, our Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Finances Stacey Bachar and I have had the privilege of visiting each building staff meeting to provide updates on our strategic plan and facilities progress.
Where our students learn and the maintenance of our facilities is a critical component to us reaching our goals to provide a safe learning environment and one that prepares our students with the knowledge and skills for their success.
At the end of 2022, we began a comprehensive facilities planning process in partnership with a well-respected architect who specializes in schools. This process started with an extensive facility assessment to look at safety, security, environment, and learning spaces conducive to today's learning standards and methods. The first two phases of evaluation and assessment are now complete.
When we return from winter break, we will enter the third phase of the process - community engagement and long-range planning. We plan to visit our family association groups at each building and offer ways to provide open feedback.
Throughout my time in District 70, our community has continued to prioritize the well-being of our students and a commitment to quality education. I am confident that through this phase, we will continue to learn together, as our vision states, and make a plan to ensure our schools are in a position to continue serving our community for years to come.
Shine Bright,
Rebecca

The Libertyville firefighters were in the schools this week teaching our students about planning a fire escape from their home.
Second grade scientists are studying how land can change quickly.
Did you know every D70 students gets to ride a firetruck one school day? So cool!
Sign Up for D70 Emergency Text Messages
In case of an emergency, District 70 will connect with families through emails, recorded phone messages, and text messages. But under Illinois law, text messages are sent only to families who sign up to receive them.
We encourage everyone to sign up for text messages because they generally reach everyone almost as quickly as they are sent. D70 only sends text messages in an emergency, including school closures, late buses, etc.
You can opt-in by texting 67587 with either a Y or a YES as the message you send. (This may not be activated for 48 hours from when you opt in.) This text (SMS) service only will be used in the event of an emergency.

What a show! So proud of all of the dedicated HMS students at the recent Student Talent Show! Lights, sound, curtains, hosting, performing, program art - they did it all!
Rockland third graders continued the tradition of holding a grandparent and/or VIP luncheon. Students take time interviewing their guests.
A huge thank you to all the parents/guardians who help students learn about artists, including Piet Mondrian.
