Spotlight on 7th Grade Science
7TH Grade science is currently studying microorganisms and practicing microscope skills by looking at pond water for the Cells and Heredity unit. Student Emma Fullerton shared pictures of what she found in her drop of pond water with the class!
National History Day State Competition
Last Saturday, Lenape was proud to send twelve, 8th and 9th grade students to this year’s state competition for National History Day at the University of Scranton. After placing in the regional round in March, the following students were invited to compete at the state level:
- 8th Grade: Jennings Bell, Evianne Casey, Louis Cipollo, Amelia Lamb, Jack Moore, Michael Rafalowski, Tyler Ransome, Jaslynn Smith, Patrick Tierney, and Tina Zoroufi
- 9th Grade: Kendra Pitts and Jane Toth
During the competition, students met with judges to discuss their projects and defend their research. Several students advanced to runoff judging on Sunday, and special congratulations go to the following students:
- Tina Zoroufi for finishing in 6th place in the junior individual exhibit category.
- Evianne Casey for finishing 5th in the junior individual performance category.
- Jack Moore for receiving the PA Naval Maritime History Award sponsored by the Naval Order of the United States.
- Jennings Bell for placing 2nd in the junior individual documentary category. As a 2nd place finisher, Jennings also received an invitation to compete in the national competition in June.
Lenape is proud of the hard work and dedication exhibited by the students throughout the project!
PSSA & Keystone Testing
Our students have successfully finished the ELA and Math PSSA. 8th graders will begin the science assessment next week, and the Algebra Keystone will be administered the following week. The Algebra Keystone will be administered using paper booklets and the science PSSA will be administered online. Please remind your student to come to school on testing days with a fully charged laptop and power cord, something to read, water, and a calculator. We have very limited calculators to lend to students, and they will not be permitted to use the calculator on their phones.
For your reference, the remaining testing dates are as follows:
PSSA Testing (Grades 7 and 8 ONLY):
- Science: May 9 (8th grade only)
Algebra Keystone Exam (Students in Algebra 1 or Algebra 1B):
- May 17 & 18

Officials/Referees/Umpires Needed!
It is becoming increasingly difficult to secure officials/referees/umpires, and this issue is anticipated to get worse over the next several years. The PIAA is looking to build its officials ranks. If interested, please visit Become an Official - PIAA. Additionally, students who are 16 years old or older have a special opportunity from the PIAA. The PIAA has waived the fee for its Junior Officials Program. All students who go through the course will then have the opportunity to make money officiating middle school through 9th grade sports. For more information, please visit Junior Officials Program.pdf (piaa.org).
Repeated Information
HVAC Phase 3
Phase 3 involves the closure and relocation of classrooms 233 (Blair), 234 (Casciole), 235 (Tennett), 236 (Caldwell), 237 (Greenbaum), and 509 (DiFranceisco). Strings classes have relocated to the auditorium and band room.
Crochet Club Donations Needed
The Crochet Club is in need of your donations of leftover yarn and/or fleece material you may have around your home. We use the fleece, which we cut into 15 inch squares, to learn how to crochet. We then gather the squares together to make a 9 square blanket. We also use the yarn to create granny squares for blankets. Some of our members have been making their own clothes and stuffed animals. Your donations can be delivered to the main office. Thank you in advance!
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
Each year the Parent Council liaisons host a Lenape Staff and Teacher appreciation luncheon, it is a really nice way to thank everyone for all their efforts for the year for our kids. This year the luncheon will be on Friday, May 12th, 2023.
We have created a sign up where you can either sign up to send in a monetary donation which will benefit the lunch, along with a few other smaller events we will have for the teachers for the remainder of the year or if you could kindly sign up to make a dish, or purchase something to send in for our staff. Please see the sign up genius link below. Thank you for your support.

Laptop Breakage
We have seen a rise in the amount of screen breaks for student laptops. Our policy covers for 2 broken screens per device. If your child’s laptop screen breaks 3 times, we will be required to send you an invoice for the repair and labor. The current cost for this is $200. Please remind your child to care for their laptops. Some simple steps to assist are:
- Use two hands when holding or moving the device.
- Use clean hands while using the laptop or iPad.
- Use only the provided digital pen or finger on the screen.
- Use only the power adapter that came with the device.
- Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.
- Keep device stored in the provided case. This includes traveling through the hallways, on buses, or anytime the device is not being utilized.
- Make sure nothing is on the keyboard, close the lid, and remove all cables if any are plugged into the laptop. Place laptop in your bag carefully.
- Be careful when placing your case on the floor. Keep the device off the floor so screens do not get stepped on by others.
