Leadership Message

Sweet on our Seniors, Spreading Community JOY

Three weeks ago, our Chaplain, Mrs. Jackie Comartin, spearheaded a beautiful giving project for our community, Sweet on our Seniors-Spreading Joy through Valentine Love. Mrs. Comartin saw a post from Kath Stevenson, Julie-Ann Barthel and Erin Hanneman, that invited people in our community to share some love for our seniors, starting with those at the Rivercrest Care Center. St. John staff and students rose to the call and poured their love into creating cards, messages, jokes, sweet treats, crafts, and pictures! Many teachers used the activity as a Literacy curricular connection of letter writing.

It is in and through these moments of charity and giving, where we find light in the darkness, hope in the despair, and love amongst the chaos. in his homily today, Father Kris reminded us of the message of the Gospel that God conquers the darkness and He is with us through the suffering.

May our Valentine messages bring hope, JOY, and love to our seniors who have faced so much this year. May they know how much they are surrounded by prayers and love from our community. Thank you Mrs. Comartin for the invitation of spreading JOY and thank you kids and staff for answering the call. Through these good works, we respond as the community God calls us to be, loving one another as He loves us.

COBS-Community Supports for our St. John School

Do you happen to shop at COBS? If so, COBS gives back to our school! Mention your child goes to St. John XXIII and 5% of the sale goes back to the school.

It's COLD outside! Please continue to send your child dressed for this deep freeze!

As shared previously, heading outside for play and fresh air will continue to be a priority at St. John. We know from research that outside play is so important for a child's mental,

social, emotional, and physical well-being. Raising resilient kids is an important focus at our school and we will do all we can to support daily outside play as much as possible, especially this year with limitations to our students’ extra-curricular activities on hold and the mental health priorities for students.

Thank you for your continued help to ensure your child comes to school with all the proper gear to be outside. We will be outside for regular recess up to -25 degrees Celsius or -25 Windchill.

When temperatures or Windchills are below -25 Celsius, outdoor recess play will continue with reduced play times outside. These are our Polar Bear Recesses!

Recess will be indoors when the extreme winter conditions are deemed unsafe to head out, even for short spurts.

Registration for the 2021-2022 school year is open!We are excited to welcome our new St. John learners!

Independence, initiative, decision making, creativity, the ability to learn, relationships and feelings of self-worth - all have their beginnings in early childhood. We believe that each child is unique and, together with parents as our partners, we build upon children's natural curiosity and spontaneity, encouraging and supporting them as they take their first step into school.
