Student Engagement
The pictures highlighted here show STUDENT ENGAGEMENT:
The formula is:
STUDENT ENGAGEMENT=HIGH LEVELS OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND LOW LEVELS OF STUDENT DISRUPTION
It is important that we use every moment of the precious time we have with our students to engage them in interesting student work. These pictures show some examples from our building this past week.
Student Engagement: Reading

Formative February continues...
An instructional look for for February is Formative Assessment.
Expectations for formative assessment include:
1. Team planned formative assessment indicated in lesson plans. Just as you plan learning targets, you plan the formative assessment.
2. Formative assessment is part of every lesson in reading math, science and VAS. While some formative assessment can be teacher observation, the vast majority of formative assessment should be a student work product. This makes our learning VISIBLE, sharable, assessable.
3. Teachers are recording formative information (see an example picture below). An example of this is having a formative assessment recording tool so that you can make notes about students who have mastered and students who have not mastered.
Absences
We work with great teammates who have pulled together to help those of us who have dealt with the cold or flu personally or in our family. Thank you!
As a reminder, all absences are to be reported to me by email or text. This allows us to be prepared by trying to arrange for the best subs we can find, increase the likelihood of a sub job being picked up, and preparing for the possibility of having to split (which we try to avoid at all costs).
You do not need to provide me any details unless you want. Email is my preferred way or you can text me (757-768-9153). Thanks to do those who are doing this.
