Benton Weekly Update

Week 26: March 1-5, 2021

March is Women's History Month AND Youth Art Month

March is always a pivotal month during the school year. Parent Conferences have concluded and hopefully students and families have a new sense of purpose and begin the latter part of the school year resolved to finish strong. It is also a month of celebrations with Read Across America, Women's History Month, Arts Education Month, Pi Day, etc.

We have a few exciting announcements: NJAHS (the National Junior Art Honor Society) will be forming this year. Students (and parents) can attend an informational meeting on Monday (see zoom link/information below.) To be eligible for NJAHS, students must be enrolled in one of the Visual Arts classes and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A new Schoology course has been added to service our GATE students. If your child is GATE, they have already been enrolled in Advanced Learning, and teachers have begun to post activities designed to extend and engage advanced learners. If your child has not been formally identified as GATE, but you feel that your advanced learner would benefit from this course, please contact Ms. Ridgeway.

At this time, we have been given the "green light" to schedule Spring Pictures and Promotion Pictures for our 8th graders. More details will be forthcoming, but save the date for Wed. 3/17!

8th Graders: If you're going to La Mirada H.S., there are links (below) to register to try out for Cheer and for Color Guard.

Towards the end of the month we will begin course requests for next year. Teachers will be making recommendations for Honors classes. If your child is not currently in an Honors class but you feel that would be a good fit, I encourage you to reach out to their teacher with your request. Please keep in mind that students will also select three year-long electives and two alternates. Choose wisely!

Congratulations to our February Students of the Month!

Just beware the Ides of March!

Spotlight on Learning ~ Video Productions

Video Productions Students were to produce a short video (10 to 40 seconds) with part of the short film using a high camera angle. They were encouraged to make it interesting, possibly tell a story, and use multiple clips. Adding music or sound effects would be a bonus. Check out the "Best of Bird's Eye View Video" by Video Productions Students.
