Senior Information for Class of 2023
Seniors must participate in the mandatory graduation practice at 9:00 am on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Graduates will receive tickets to graduation after practice. As a reminder, all graduates will receive 5 tickets for the gymnasium and 2 for the auditorium. Graduation will also be livestreamed via: https://www.youtube.com/onslowschoolstelevision
Important Dates to Note:
June 5: Senior Class Meeting during homeroom
June 6-9: Final Exams
June 10: Class of 2023 Parade 9:00 am – starts at Swansboro Elementary School
June 11: Baccalaureate Service 6:00 pm at Swansboro United Methodist Church
June 11: Parking Space must be repainted black to avoid $50 fee or you can make donation to HOSA
June 12: Project Graduation Class Trip to Busch Gardens
June 14: Graduation Practice 9:00 am and Graduation 7:00 pm
Graduation Ceremony Information
2. Due to fire codes, every person, regardless of age, must have a ticket. Each senior will be given 5 tickets for the gymnasium and 2 for the auditorium. The ceremony will also be available via livestream for extra guests to watch at home. You will receive your tickets at graduation practice on June 14. Please keep in mind that all seats have been allocated and there are NO EXTRA TICKETS IF YOU LOSE YOURS.
3. All babies and children are also required to have a ticket if attending the ceremony regardless of age or size.
4. Proper attire for graduation is expected from everyone. This is a formal occasion and seniors are expected to treat it as such. Ladies are required to wear dresses/dress slacks and dress shoes. Gentlemen are required to wear a dress shirt with tie, dress pants, socks, and dress shoes. This means no jeans, sunglasses, flip flops, tennis shoes. High heels and strapless shoes are highly discouraged due to safety reasons. If you have a question about your attire, see Dr. Gross. Seniors are not to alter their cap or gown in any way. Anyone not conforming to the dress code will not be allowed to participate in graduation. Ladies do not have to affix the collar onto the gowns. This is optional. Students may wear cords that are issued by the school. If you have questions, you will need to see Dr. Gross or Mrs. Rains.
5. On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, seniors need to be at Swansboro High School one hour prior to the graduation ceremony (6:00 pm for the 7:00 pm ceremony). No guests will be allowed in the main building and once you are inside, you may not leave the building until after graduation. You will not be allowed to bring any food or drinks into the building. You need to enter the school at the front door by the cafeteria because other doors will be locked. Students will sign in at the door and receive room assignments. Bring bobby pins or whatever else you might need to secure your cap.
6. Please note OCS Board Policy: IHF-A Graduation Exercises: Any senior who violates school rules, damages school property, or engages in any conduct which interferes with, or disrupts school operations, may be prohibited by the principal from participation in the graduation exercises.
7. Any student or guests who disrupts the ceremony will be escorted by police out of the gymnasium.
8. Seniors who have a financial obligation to Swansboro High School, i.e. lost books, uniforms, school fees, fund raising money, etc. will not be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. All final fees will need to be taken care of by May 26, 2023.
Class of 2023 Senior Parade Instructions – June 10, 2023
Please note the following plans/expectations:
1. The parade will start at Swansboro Elementary School and conclude at the intersection of W. Corbett Ave and Old Hammocks Road. The Swansboro Police Department will provide a police escort and students will be directed to turn right on Old Hammocks Road which will be the end of the parade. The police escort will begin promptly at 9:00 am.
2. The parade is limited to the right-hand lane of traffic on the east bound side of Hwy 24/W. Corbett Ave. Spectators should be in place by 8:45 am to enjoy the parade and cheer for students as they drive the route.
3. Students may begin lining up for the parade starting at 7:30 am at Swansboro Elementary School. Students are limited to 1 vehicle per graduate. You may decorate your vehicle with posters, streamers, balloons, etc. however you must stay inside of the vehicle in accordance with North Carolina driving laws. Graduates may not have parade floats, trailers, etc.
Swansboro High School Project Graduation Class Trip
Charter buses will depart at 5:00 am and will return at 11:30 pm. The trip includes bus transportation, breakfast, dinner, entrance tickets to the park, $50 spending money and a t-shirt. Please note the following expectations:
1. All participants will come to the senior trip drug and alcohol free.
2. All participants are to make arrangements to be dropped off at the high school cafeteria between 4:30- 4:45 am on Monday, June 12, 2023. Participants must be picked up at 11:30 pm when the bus returns.
3. Participants must ride the charter bus to/from Busch Gardens and may not leave the park during the day.
4. Mature behavior is expected by participants.
5. All bags will be personally checked upon arrival and before boarding the bus.
6. There will be NO SMOKING. Electronic or vapor cigarettes will not be permitted.
