Devonian Period
A Journey Back In Time
Geologic Event
Sea rise and fall over what is now north America.
What was the Climate like?
The climate was relatively warm and dry, and there was less of an equator-to-pole temperature gradient than today.
What was the Environment like?
It was warmer and wetter than today, and there were higher levels of oxygen. Although, the higher levels are oxygen were what allowed invertebrates, such as early scorpions, to grow to such a large size. Animals in the Devonian period living at that time is sharks, Bony fishes, Devonian forests, lungfishes.
What are the main things travelers might like to see?
Travelers might like to see fossils during the Devonian Period because there's a lot of animals in that time period had live for a long time like the Tikiaalik. The earliest known tetrapod is Tiktaalik rosae. Dated from the mid-Devonian, this fossil creature is considered to be the link between the lobe-finned fishes and early amphibians. Tiktaalik was probably mostly aquatic, “walking” on the bottom of shallow water estuaries.
DEVONIAN PERIOD
What should travelers pack for comfort and safety?
They should pack food. They should pack fresh water because there is mainly saltwater during this period. The late Devonian was very dangerous. scientist have man theories about the Devonians ending. One is the great increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from all the plant life. Therefore, they should pack oxygen masks. Another theory is that there was a great drop in global temperatures due to there glaciation of Gondwana, on of the two supercontinents.
What dangers might travelers face?
They may face earthquakes, because of the change in landmasses, and they may be attacked by early sharks. They may also be infested with swarms of early insects.
