Omaha North DECA serves as OPS Teams Host for DECA's All Metros Leadership Conference
Omaha North DECA Staff have been instrumental in setting up Teams Meetings for DECA Conferences during the 2020-2021 school year. The State Department of Education and many area school districts utilize Zoom and thus set up conferences and competition within the Zoom based environment. To ensure OPS participation, Omaha North DECA volunteered to set up Teams Meetings, OPS's virtual meeting site of choice, for all OPS DECA competitors. The test run was First Times Conference, December 3, 2020. While there were some technical glitches the competition was deemed a success with 60+ OPS students participating. Omaha North's DECA team will again test their tech skills this Saturday, January 30, 2021 . Typically this competition sees 600 participants from across the Metro area (300+ from OPS). Wish us luck or at least a good internet connection.
Audio-Visual Technology 1-2
Even with remote learning, Mrs. Runyon's Audio-Visual Technology 1-2 class had the opportunity to meet with Brigit Ganske, one of the producers from PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs to discuss their project proposals. Students submitted their proposals, she reviewed them, provided feedback and then met with the class. This experience helps students connect that what they are doing in school is "real life". They are developing skills for their future.
ACT Testing

Students will be able to learn core techniques in molecular biology and other related areas such as cell biology, cancer biology, or microbiology in addition to the latest knowledge in their host lab’s field of study. The program is intended to last one semester with the possibility that the student could continue in the lab after this period (e.g. over the summer) should they and their mentor mutually agree to that. Students are paid on an hourly basis for their time spent in the lab and are required to apply for a position through Human Resources and fill out time sheets to log their hours.
