Sliding into Misery
On March 22, 2014, a massive mudslide in the small town of Oso, Washington destroyed property and claimed the lives of 36 people with over 100 still missing. The mudslide also blocked the Stillaguamish River and could have caused flash flooding if it had not been cleared quickly.
Amanda Skorjanc's Story
While watching videos with her infant son, Skorjanc's home began to shake and the lights began to flicker. She looked outside to see a mountain of mud and debris speeding towards her. She turned and held her son tightly in her arms as the mudslide tore away her neighborhood. The baby survived and Skorjanc is recovering from broken bones and other injuries.
