NATIONAL SRO APPRECIATION DAY
MCSS recognized our SROs for National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day this week. Our school resource officers serve as important bridges between youth and law enforcement. The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) selected Wednesday, Feb. 15, as SRO Appreciation Day to recognize the contributions of SROs who protect students, teachers, and staff.
Deputy Rives was born in Katy, Texas but raised right here in Madison County. He is a graduate of Grissom High School and furthered his education at the University of North Alabama and Faulkner University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Justice Administration.
Deputy Rives began his law enforcement career in 2009 with the Sheriff's Office and completed the police academy at NEALEA. Upon completion he was assigned to patrol and worked there for little over 7 years. Deputy Rives is beginning his 6th year as a School Resource Officer, the first four at Madison County High School and Buckhorn High School the last 2 years.
Deputy Rives states, “I’ve always wanted to be a Deputy Sheriff since I was a kid. I’ve always looked up to law enforcement and remember having DARE officers come speak to us at school and knew then that’s what I wanted to do. Knowing these kids see us in the schools helps them know they are safe. These students are the future generation and as an SRO I want them to know they can be anything they want to be after graduation.”
Madison County Sheriff’s SROs mentor students, provide safety and security inside the schools and teach law-related classes to elementary, middle and high school students in Madison County Schools. Thank you Officer Rives for all you do for the staff and students at BHS!!!

MCSS Safe Schools Tip Line is an anonymous reporting hotline designed for students and parents to safely and quickly report any type of potential safety concern towards an individual or school. The goal of this tip line is to provide an extra measure of safety for students and parents as they report incidents involving students on or off campus.
By dialing or texting 256.536.8355, someone could possibly save the life of another. You may also email your concerns to 256TELL@madisoncountyal.gov.
This reporting hotline is monitored 24/7 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. All reports are forwarded to the School Resource Officer(s) who is assigned to the respective school. The school administration may be contacted as well.

Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
https://www.hsvutil.org/community_resources/programs/sign_up_to_round_up.php
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!
