Social Networking
Facts and Information
The Basics of Social Networks
Social networking is the use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with others users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself. Within the past few years, social media sites have taken the Internet by storm, but not many use or understand precautions when on such sites.
Advantages vs. Disadvantages
Social media has many admirable traits, such as you can connect to long distance friends and family, you can be updated on the lives of your favorite celebrities, or it can target a wide audience, making it a useful and effective recruitment tool. But with the good, comes the bad. Social networking opens up the possibility of hackers to commit fraud and identity theft, possible corporate invasion of privacy, and , the most controversial topic, cyber bullying.
As of April 2014, 87% of all online participants use social media sites.
Examples of Social Media Websites:
Facebook is a social networking website that makes it easy for you to connect and share with your family and friends online. Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Today, Facebook is the world's largest social network, with more than 1 billion users worldwide.
