Exciting News from the Entrepreneurship Program
Student INC Entrepreneurs won seed money to build their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) after pitching business plans to private sector leaders on Wednesday, January 11th. The Notley Fund provided a generous donation for student teams with viable business plans to move their ideas forward—Animal Inspired, a nonprofit that crowdsources t-shirt designs, prints them, and donates proceeds to animal advocacy groups; Austin Survival Bags, which will use event banners from SXSW, ACL, and Formula 1 to make unique souvenir bags; Let’s Get Dyed, which will create shibori-dying workshops so customers can create unique, hand-dyed textiles out of recycled materials; and Spether, an app for subordinates or students to share anonymous feedback with supervisors, administrators, or teachers. Students developed their ideas into business plans in their Incubator class, and the MVP Pitch was the 11th grade capstone project and a culmination of a year and a half of learning for the inaugural class of entrepreneurs in Student INC.

Fine Arts Fun at Crockett High School
BAND: Last weekend, three of our band students were recognized in the All-Region and All-Area bands. Gaby Martinez, Gabbie Rico, and Melissa Lopez were honored in this performing ensemble. These students worked on College level music all semester before competing in two, two-phase auditions to receive this honor. For more information, check out band's blog post HERE.
CLI: On February 20, all CHS staff will participate in a professional development morning led by AISD's Creative Learning Initiative (CLI). CHS is in its third year of working with CLI and our vertical team teachers to infuse fine arts strategies into the core curriculum. The theme this year is Music and Movement. These fine arts-related activities make learning engaging and fun for teachers and students alike!
If you notice a high degree of focus and concentration in the fine arts classes this month, it's because everyone is getting serious about preparation for UIL competition this spring. UIL students also know that they must be passing all of their classes to compete.
VSA: VSA Texas is on the Crockett campus again this year teaching art and social skills with many life skills students. Two musicians trained in drumming are the main instructors. The students are engaged and challenged with taking simple musical dictation, writing beats and playing many percussion instruments.

Jumpstart is the district's fall semester credit recovery. It will begin at Crockett High School on Tuesday, January 31st and will end on March 9th. It will occur on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:35 - 6:35. If you received a form for Jumpstart, make sure you bring it back signed to your counselor.
