Thank you to our wonderful PTA and parent volunteers for our fun-filled Valentine's Day Celebrations! Thanks also to all of our families for your help to ensure that only non-edible items were included in our students' Valentine cards.

Reminder: No Parking in the Go Zone

To ensure the safety of our students, please remember that parking is not permitted in the Go Zone during school hours. This is especially important on days when our school has special events with a large number of parent volunteers in the building. Please be aware that unattended vehicles are subject to ticketing.

Additionally, it is imperative that we remain patient while in the Go Zone. Remember that we all share the same goal; to drop-off and pick-up our students efficiently and SAFELY. Students should only exit/enter cars from the curb. I have witnessed children being directed by drivers to enter their vehicle in the middle of the street during dismissal. This creates an unsafe situation, as the vehicles that are exiting the Go Zone cannot see the children. If space is not available to pull up to the curb, please either loop around the block or make arrangements to meet your child at another location with less congestion.

The safety of our kiddos is our greatest priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Lunch Rehearsals

Fifth Grade lunch time rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, February 17th and run through the end of April. The rehearsals will always take place on Day 2.

District Chorus

On Monday, the Mt. Lebanon District Chorus students attended a Festival Day and sang in a dress rehearsal concert for the students at Markham Elementary. Several of our Hoover 5th grade students participated in this singing opportunity. Their next performance will be on Wednesday, February 24th in the High School Auditorium and all are invited! The concert will be at 7:00 pm and features the Elementary District Chorus, Middle School and High School Choirs. The District Chorus students are also looking forward to performing for the Celebration of Education on Sunday, April 5th in the High School Auditorium. Celebrate the Arts in Education and hear some great music sung by our talented students!

Bestselling Author Visits Hoover

Hoover School is lucky to have been chosen to host Stephan Pastis, author of the bestselling Timmy Failure series, for his live telecast on February 22nd. Students in grades 3-5 will be watching the live telecast and a few lucky students will have the chance to ask the author questions! This is an exciting opportunity for our students and school!

Kindergarten Registration Begins Monday, February 1st

Kindergarten Registration for the 2016-2017 school year will begin throughout the Mt. Lebanon School District on Monday, February 1st, 2016. Children who reach the age of five before September 8th are eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall. This is a wonderful time of the year as we welcome many children into the Mt. Lebanon Elementary Community and begin our planning for a new school year. If you have a child or know of a neighbor who is eligible for Kindergarten, please stop by the main office to pick up a registration packet.

All incoming Kindergarten students will be given a short screening interview in late spring to assess basic skills and to aid parents, teachers, and school administration in student placement. This tool is used just as a baseline of student knowledge. Parents will select a date and time for the screening when they pick up their registration paper work.

Recess Announcements

Please remember that we will be taking the students outside for recess as long as the weather holds out. It is very important to send students with proper winter attire, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, etc. If there is snow on the ground, students must have boots and snow pants to play in the snow during recess times. Thank you!

Absence Excuse Reminder

With cold and flu season in full swing, please remember that a written excuse is required in order for student absence(s) to be considered excused. Parents/guardians should submit a written note indicating the reason(s) their student(s) absence(s) upon their return.

Weather Delays/Closings

Weather Delays and Kindergarten:

In the event of a 10:00AM start due to inclement weather, the Kindergarten schedule will be adjusted as follows:

  • AM Kindergarten will be in session from 10:00AM-12:00PM (students should arrive to Hoover by 9:50AM)

  • PM Kindergarten will be in session from 1:00PM-3:30PM (students should arrive to Hoover by 12:50PM)

Principal's Notes

  • Your Information: Please inform the office if your phone number has changed from last year, or if it changes throughout the year.

  • Absences: For an absence, or a tardy, to be considered excused it must fall under the following categories set by the school board. Permissible excused absences from District Schools are: (1) personal illness/medical appointments, (2) death in the immediate family, (3) traditionally recognized religious holidays, (4) approved educational travel.

  • Pick-Up/Drop-Off: To ensure the safety of our students, cars should not pull into the driveway between the hours of 8:00AM-9:00AM or 3:00PM-4:00PM. Additionally, please do not park along Robb Hollow in front of the building and exit your vehicle. Specific details regarding the Go Zone procedures can be found below.

  • Morning Arrival: In the morning, supervision is not available for students on the blacktop until 8:20AM. For safety reasons, students should arrive to school, no earlier than 8:20AM. After 8:30AM, students may use the front entrance.

  • Lunch/Recess: The school lunch/recess hour occurs daily from 12:00-1:00PM. Students who leave for lunch should return to the building by 12:55 and report to the Main Office.

  • Visitors: All visitors to the school will need to buzz in at the main entrance door and sign in at the office. We will continue to require visitors to obtain a visitors pass.
