SUMMERTIME SCHEDULE
Dear Harrington Parents,
The teacher and teaching assistants last day on campus is the same day as your child’s last day, June 2. After that Friday, Mrs. Groetken and I are on campus to close out the school year and start ordering supplies for the new year from June 5-22, Monday through Thursday, until 5:30. The office is closed on Fridays in June. All employees are off campus from June 23 through July 14. We are happy to assist you again on Monday July 17. There is no summer school this year at Harrington.
I also wish to send each of you my sincere thanks for supporting our teachers and your children throughout the school year. We enrolled our highest number of kindergarteners in years in April, a total of 64 young learners. I am certain we will start the 2017-18 school year on a very positive note. I hope your summer creates many happy family memories. I am already looking forward to seeing your children again in August!
Sincerely,
Ms. Irvine
HARRINGTON FAREWELLS
Each year marks a transition for some of our faculty members. The 2016-17 school year began with my introduction of Ms. Ashala Morris to our faculty as our principal intern. Ms. Morris’s background in counseling and testing was a special bonus for our campus. We will miss her as she moves on to a new campus in 2017-18. We will definitely keep in touch with her, especially when her new baby girl arrives in October.
Mr. Griffin has been a Harrington team member for over 10 years. He started out in PASAR, moved into a paraprofessional position, and then became a certified teacher. He has been a role model for all students in staying the course and achieving your dreams one step at a time. Mr. Griffin will be the PISD camp director starting in June 2017.
Ms. Rashmi Lalan and Ms. Lindsay Anderson have been amazing paraprofessionals at Harrington for many years and have new plans for 2017-18. Ms. Lalan will move to Hughston Elementary as a teaching assistant. Ms. Anderson will move to Florida to join her family and seek employment there. We will miss both of these teaching assistants very much. They have dedicated themselves to accelerating learning in their students and building student success.
Victoria Kearns, a Harrington parent and teacher, is fulfilling her dream of teaching in middle school next year. She will transfer to Carpenter Middle School as a math teacher.
I am delighted she will be another bridge from Harrington to Carpenter.
Returning to replace Mrs. Kearns as a special education teacher will be Mrs. Leslie, a former 5th grade team member.

2017 Summer Reading
"20 Minutes a Day Keeps the Summer Slide Away "
"Summer slide" is the tendency for students to lose some of the achievement gains they made during the previous school year. The good news is that preventing summer slide is as easy as reading for 20 minutes a day over the summer. The best news is that children who read for 20 minutes a day over the summer can make a "summer leap" and actually make reading gains!
Please visit the follow link to learn more about how to prevent "summer slide" with the wonderful tips our own amazing Librarian Mrs. Edmondson put together:
