Dear Tornado Families,
Well on our way into the second semester. I want to take a moment to share a few things of importance as we gear up for graduation and the registration process for the 2020-2021 school year.
Let’s start with registration. Students in grades 9-11 this is a hugely important time as we begin to look to registering for courses next year. Beginning this Friday, February 21, students will have access to our Course Catalog and their registration forms. It is highly encouraged that families ask their student(s) to review each of these items. In addition, it is imperative that students and families are made aware of the graduation pathways and the 24 credit requirements for their cohort.
Families will be able to review graduation requirements for the graduating classes of 2021 and beyond on our district and school webpages. Last evening, Wednesday, February 19, YHS held a College and Career Night for families of grades 9-11. We have uploaded the presentations for those who were not able to attend. If you have any questions about the content within the presentations please contact your student’s counselor.
For seniors and their families please continue to look for information related to college and career information coming from YHS. There are many scholarship opportunities made available through a variety of resources. Please connect with Mrs. Mathis as she is the main point of contact to support students with their post high school application process.
Finally, school safety is a priority within the district. On Friday, February 28 (6:45 - 8:00am) during my Coffee with the Principal we will be presenting our ALICE protocol where we are training our staff and students to incorporate strategies during a school shooting. We want to complete the circle of information by including parents/guardians with the same information we are providing our students and staff. We will have school, district, and law enforcement on hand to provide the details of the protocol.
As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us through phone or email.
Have a great day and Graduate Yelm!
